We do our bit, and in return God blesses us. \u00a0We expect him to prosper us, to give us a good job and to keep us healthy. \u00a0Many of us expect this if we are honest, even if we would disagree in theory with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/adrianwarnock\/2018\/05\/all-things-are-possible-jesus\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">prosperity gospel<\/a>. \u00a0The same question could be asked about us that Satan asked God about Job:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>\u201cWould Job worship you if he got nothing out of it?\u201d (Job 1:9, Good News Translation)<\/h3>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Put your name in that sentence. \u00a0Would YOU worship God if you got nothing out of it? Do you serve him or do you expect him to serve you?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/patheos.com\/blogs\/adrianwarnock\/2019\/09\/hope-in-suffering\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">When suffering hits<\/a>, when things that we have been relying on God to give us are taken away, then sometimes we can feel angry at God. It is as if the slot machine has broken down, as if <a href=\"https:\/\/patheos.com\/blogs\/adrianwarnock\/2018\/07\/preparing-for-unexpected-suffering\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">our servant has failed to provide for us as we expected him to.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Perhaps whether we serve God or are expecting him to serve us is most revealed in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/adrianwarnock\/2019\/06\/pray-always-jesus\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">our prayer lives<\/a>. That is assuming that we even pray at all. Is our prayer simply a list of tasks we are asking him to do for us? Are we praying for him to bless all our plans and endeavours? \u00a0Is our prayer essentially worrying out loud?<\/p>\n<p>Or do our prayers sound more like a servant coming to their Master. Do we <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/adrianwarnock\/2018\/05\/jesus-commands-worship-me\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">worship<\/a> him, are we <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/adrianwarnock\/2017\/11\/giving-thanks-suffering-not\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">grateful<\/a> to him? Do we come humbly, seeking to find out what it is that our Master would have us do today? And then, yes, asking him to bless us as we go forth into the World to do HIS will.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h2>To serve Jesus means to obey him.<\/h2>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>But to obey him is not to be a legalist. It is a lifestyle. It comes out of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/adrianwarnock\/2018\/04\/the-greatest-commandment-love-me\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">love<\/a>. And it is not a heavy burden. \u00a0His commands \u00a0are not what we were expecting from a religious figure.<\/p>\n<p>His invitation is to lay aside all earthly masters and the burdens they put on us, taking instead his yoke. And in serving him we find true freedom from slavery to the World and all its desires.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3><span id=\"en-ESV-23488\" class=\"text Matt-11-28\"><span class=\"woj\">\u201cCome to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.<\/span><\/span> <span id=\"en-ESV-23489\" class=\"text Matt-11-29\"><span class=\"woj\">Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.<\/span><\/span> <span id=\"en-ESV-23490\" class=\"text Matt-11-30\"><span class=\"woj\">For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.\u201d (Matthew 11:28-30)<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The amazing truth is that Jesus is a King who serves. \u00a0Who laid his life down for us. But since he gave us his all, he does ask for our all in return.<\/p>\n<h3>Jesus is King but his commands are not burdensome, although they do demand everything.<\/h3>\n<p>Jesus is calling us to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/adrianwarnock\/2018\/01\/jesus-commands-repent-believe\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">reorientate our hearts to seek Him<\/a>, then over time our lives will increasingly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/adrianwarnock\/2018\/02\/jesus-commands-follow\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">follow him<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>So Kanye hit the nail on the head, and his bold statement should be turned into a question we all ask ourselves no longer how long we have been a Christian:<\/p>\n<h2>Am <em>I<\/em> in complete service to Jesus?<\/h2>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>Read More<\/h2>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"pnslq63QY3\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/adrianwarnock\/2019\/10\/kanye-west-the-evangelist\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">Kanye West the Evangelist<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; My perspective has also been shaped by chronic illness since 2017, when I developed life-threatening pneumonia that caused lasting damage to my body, triggered several further conditions, and uncovered a diagnosis of blood cancer. This was successfully treated, although doctors expect it to return in the future. Out of these experiences I founded Blood Cancer Uncensored, an online patient-led support community.
