This morning I again plan on sharing only a short summary of Dave Stroud\u2019s talk. \u00a0He spoke about how we are called to be salt and light in the world.<\/p>\n

<\/div>\n
Dave begun by speaking about the\u00a0difference\u00a0between Plato\u2019s view of the physical body and realm and the Christian one. \u00a0He told us not to think of our eternal state in heaven as a place of disembodied spirits hanging around. \u00a0Our bodies are part of God\u2019s creation, and there is no divide between the spiritual and\u00a0physical, rather all is spiritual<\/div>\n

We are the salt of the earth. \u00a0We are meant to be engaged with the world serving it. \u00a0We are to affect every aspect of the world. \u00a0We should care for all of the environment. \u00a0We should care about poverty in the developing world. \u00a0We are not called to live in the modern equivalent of monastic communities.<\/div>\n

If the world has gone off, could it not be because something has\u00a0happened\u00a0to the salt. \u00a0If we look at the films and\u00a0popular\u00a0culture we will understand what society is saying. \u00a0 \u00a0Art is hopeless. \u00a0The news tells us of the increase in violence on our streets. \u00a0Apparently\u00a0murders by children has\u00a0tripled\u00a0in the last few years. \u00a04000 five year olds were excluded from school last year because they\u00a0couldn\u2019t\u00a0be controlled. \u00a0A test of any society is how it cares for its weakest. \u00a0<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Jesus is the Light of the world, so we are the light too. \u00a0In darkness things happen that wouldn\u2019t happen in the light. \u00a0He challenged us to get\u00a0connected\u00a0with people who don\u2019t know Jesus and spend significant amounts of time with them. \u00a0If we open up our lives to others, they will open up their lives to God.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Jesus was committed to caring for the poor. \u00a0We all need to be part of caring for the poor. If we are followers of Christ we will care for the needy. \u00a0We must be known not just for our clear declarations on moral issues, but for the love and mercy we exude. \u00a0<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
We are also to be involved in transforming the culture in which we live as well as building churches. \u00a0Some will have a mission and call to get stuck into an influential job and become salt and light where you are. This could include making movies that promote godliness for example.\u00a0<\/div>\n

He ended by challenging us that if we are to be light, then the light of Jesus must shine into us and make us pure and free of worry and\u00a0aggravation, wrong thinking.\u00a0<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
