\u201cRepent and turn from all your transgressions, lest iniquity be your ruin. <\/span><\/span>Cast away from you all the transgressions that you have committed, and make yourselves a new heart and a new spirit! Why will you die, O house of Israel? <\/span>For I have no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Lord God<\/span>; so turn, and live.\u201d Ezekial 19:30-32<\/p>\n

In the above verse we see a classic example of God commanding us to do something we simply cannot. When I read this recently everything inside me yelled out \u201cbut I CANT do that God!\u201d How can I create ANYTHING, let alone a new heart and spirit within me? And then it struck me. God urges us to do the impossible so that we will turn to him in desperation and plead with him to do for us what he has commanded. So, we see for example David praying,<\/p>\n

Create in me a clean heart, O God,

My writing draws on my scientific training as a doctor and psychiatrist, my work in the UK's National Health Service and the pharmaceutical industry, alongside more than twenty-five years as a member of a growing church where I served on the leadership team offering pastoral care. My perspective has also been shaped by chronic illness since 2017, when I developed life-threatening pneumonia that caused lasting damage to my body, triggered several further conditions, and uncovered a diagnosis of blood cancer. This was successfully treated, although doctors expect it to return in the future. Out of these experiences I founded Blood Cancer Uncensored, an online patient-led support community.
