It’s expanded from the spiritual gurus into mainstream society. Both terms are often misunderstood and considered new-agey and woo-woo when, in reality, ascension is merely a fancy word for change. The only thing that stays the same in life is change: a reoccurring theme from the beginning of time.

Many who subscribe to the Ascension belief would say that we have entered the time that marks the end of the world–not the end of the human race–but the end as we know it. We are being tested. With the light, there is dark, but the light must shine brighter or else we will all become consumed within the abyss. Our world continues to exfoliate and detox – deaths, wars, species extinctions, manic weather patterns, earthquakes, other natural disasters, and over all madness. The awakening has always been there but not the awareness. This has been motivated by a larger population, a sense of freedom and the electronic age.

Aunt Gail’s Ascension

The call shouldn’t have been surprising, but it was. Aunt Gail was dying. It seemed only a few months before the call that she told me the news.

“I’ve got cancer, Kristy,” she whispered into the phone. “I start treatments soon.”

“You’ve got this Gail,” I tried to reassure her, trying to keep my voice as upbeat and positive as possible. “Just do everything the doctor tells you to do, okay? If mom could beat breast cancer over twenty years ago, you can beat this!”

“I don’t think I can,” she confided softly.

My husband’s aunt by marriage, Gail was an intricate part of our family and most importantly my mother-in-law’s life. Even if we didn’t see her often, her passing at the age of 62 felt too young. As I sat down next to my husband Chuck at the funeral, her words echoed in my head – “I don’t think I can.”

Dr. Gail Van Etten was a well-educated and beautiful African American lady who worked for a local community college where she counseled and reassured the kids on their future. She grew up in the projects of Detroit, Michigan, but worked hard to dig her way out of there, never more to return, and became a role model for many. Her degree specialty was philosophy, and she was a skeptic of all religions and faiths. Although she was raised in a house with strong faith and prayer at the dinner table, she saw the struggles in the bowels of what might be considered the ghetto and had once asked me why a God would allow such things. When I was introduced to the family as a Lutheran Psychic Medium, she was curious by nature and attended one of my gallery events where her husband (Chuck’s Uncle Ronnie) came through from the other side with specific details about a shopping trip she had that same day. She laughed and attempted to brush it off as coincidence, but it was apparent that she was confused, if not even spooked a bit. She never attended another event after that.

The funeral home was decorated with flowers and filled in with hundreds of people, all shapes, sizes, occupations and colors. Instead of mourning, it became a celebration with sharing of stories, singing, hugging and praying. Strangers became one big family that hour. I looked around to see if I could see Aunt Gail. Not the Aunt Gail who lay in her requested white suit in the casket, but the spirit of her. As I scanned the crowd, I saw her leaning up against the wall nearest the door, looking on at her funeral and the many speakers, including several ministers of different denominations of churches. Her one friend stood up and acknowledged the lack of religious faith that she knew Aunt Gail to have through the years, until she was looking at the face of death, and decided to pick up a daily devotion book and read it while she did her treatments. “I believe she found God,” the friend sang, and the room erupted into cheers and many ‘Amens’, reminiscent of a southern revival, only we were in small town Michigan.

I looked over at the Gail again who just smiled at me, shrugged and rolled her eyes as another minister stood up and asked for those who needed to be saved to stand up and say ‘Amen’. It wasn’t too long after that Gail turned a bright color of white, and I saw many other souls, probably her family in spirit. Instead of in a physical form, they took on spectrums of different colors of light, and they joined her light, combining into one until they all slowly faded. I looked around to see if anyone else saw what I had, and noticed others in the funeral home glance to the very same corner where Gail’s ascension took place, as if noticing a spark, like a flash of a camera, yet not understanding the spark. I couldn’t help but be filled with wonder at the merging.

The Fall

As children, the veil is parted. Many children see and understand. They talk about heaven, God, and speak with loved ones that they’ve never met on earth, yet know their names and physicality. Whether it is the adults in their lives discounting the claims, hormones, and/or the busyness of life, the fall seems to happen around ten year of age, and the veil is put in place unceremoniously, conforming to what is considered normal. It’s often as they grow into adulthood that a person wonders when they lost their identity and ponders how to retrieve it, when really all they have to do remove the veil and see again. As the awareness is more accessible now, the climb is easier, but only if the steps are taken.

The Climb – 7 Steps

If you’ve ever traveled to a higher elevation, you know that your body, mind and spirit go through a change. The same for those who decide to make the climb into the light.

First level – PHYSICAL – The body goes through physical symptoms – flu-like symptoms, headaches, digestive, rashes, muscle and joint aches.

Second level – EMOTIONAL/MENTAL – As the light enters and attempts to release karmic contracts and experiences, the wondering begins: a contemplation of life and soul purpose. Depression and exhaustion is often felt at this level.

Third level – STRENGTH – As you continue to climb, muscular pains and exhaustion is felt. Meditation, yoga and other exercises that require the practice of breathing help so that you don’t ‘fall’ or give up.

Fourth level – HEART CHAKRA – As the heart chakra begins to open, chest pains and headaches are common. It is at this step that the flashes of insight present from telepathy, vivid dreams, clairvoyance and empathy.

Fifth Level – LIFE EVALUATION – Old friends depart, new friends emerge, and everything around us begins to feel influx, including career, relationships, extracurricular activities, etc. Dreams continue to be lucid and flashes of insight are stronger.

Sixth Level – CLEARING – The emotional baggage from the past begins to drop off, and old destructive patterns are replaced with healthier ones.

Seventh level – EXPRESSION – The ability to express who you are and what you want becomes more centered to your core.

Guided

Many physical symptoms are felt throughout the entire process, although please see a physician to rule out true medical conditions, however it is the climb which can actually cause true medical problems. Those that take the climb may feel crazy at first, or not understand what is happening. Many give up and give in, much like those that start an exercise or diet regiment. So what is at the top of the climb? You. And through the ascension, you don’t give up on your religious beliefs; you become more attuned to them. You don’t give up on your family or friends, or ethics or anything which feels comfortable, but as you climb and go through the unveiling, your senses, the love and the very being of you becomes whole. Much like that best friend from years ago that you don’t talk to often, but when you do talk it’s like you’ve never been apart, the climb can merge your healthy past to a healthier present and future, feeling guided and safe along the path.

We all have free will and free choice. We all have a vibration and the ability to take the time and energy on the ascension. The stairway is right there. Ascension is about lifting, balancing and harmonizing your vibrational patterns in a conscious way. it is of vital importance that you maintain a state of mindful awareness. You don’t have to make the climb, but the unveiling is happening whether you do or do not. Some will find it in this lifetime, and others through death, just like Aunt Gail.

Ascension, or sometimes called the Shift, seems to be a buzz word that isn’t just circulating around yoga classes, meditation circles or trendy coffee houses.
