Many brought up Ben’s past nightmare of a movie Gigli, which has been touted as one of the worst films of all times. That was 2003. 10 whole years ago. He has changed and matured, as we all have. Then many brought up Daredevil, which coincidentally was the same year. Daredevil was actually a movie I loved, plus it was the movie that Ben Affleck and his now wife Jennifer Garner met on. Celebrities came out to support the casting choice, and Ben which seemed to help quiet the masses. So now that has blown over, yesterday the announcement came of the casting of 50 Shades of Grey. More specifically the casting of Charlie Humman as Christian Grey. From “Noooooooo”, to “Yuck”, to “Super disappointed” and “The worst casting ever”, the critique was hardly mixed. I knew that Humman looked familiar and asked my husband who quickly said he was Jax in “Sons of Anarchy”.

“He’s been cast as Christian Grey in 50 Shades of Grey,” I informed Chuck.

“He will do a great job,” he answered, leaving me to wonder what I, or he was missing as the masses were ready to take torches and light to Author E.L. James’ home.

“From the looks of it, nobody’s happy,” I responded.

Chuck shrugged. “Well, he’s British and he has a diverse resume. His recent photos are going to depict a grubby motorcycle dude.”

He was right. The photo that they were using for the announcement made him look like Spencer Pratt of MTV’s The Hills. There were much better photos out there that made Charlie look like a stud.

Now, I have to say that I didn’t read the book (but I get the gist), and seeing that I never watched Son’s of Anarchy that I maybe I should keep my mouth shut, but I began researching this Charlie Humman. I listened to some of his interviews, and his energy seemed very intelligent and intense. He even said in one of the videos that he chooses characters of men who walk their own path and who don’t like to conform.

One of my favorite shows is The Walking Dead. It was a show that I at first fought. My dad kept telling us that we had to watch it, but I was all against watching anything zombie and more specifically anything so violent. Until one weekend when I wasn’t feeling well and dressed in pajamas, with a pot of chicken soup on the stove, we pulled out the DVDs that my dad had and did a marathon of all the seasons. We were hooked. And I was in love with Norman Reedus who plays Daryl, a motorcycle, tattooed, grubby, bad-ass zombie killer. Typically not my choice, even without the zombie part. But there was something about his character, and about Norman Reedus as a person, that makes women (and men) fawn over him.

Judgments prevent us from seeing the good that lies beyond appearances. ~ Wayne Dyer

It seems that we are in the American Idol, X-Factor, America’s Got Talent, Survivor, Big Brother generation. We feel that we deserve a vote in everything, not just political decisions. I am not sure if this is advancement or plain entitlement. Who made us casting agents or record producers? Apparently television did. So when will it stop, or will it? Will we start hiring and firing employees this way? Although maybe that isn’t a bad idea!

We often beg for simpler times in this complex world that we live in, and yet we keep complicating it ourselves by offering constant opinions on everything. We ask that we end bullying, and yet we seem to be adding more fuel to the fire by the constant judgement. As adults many have self-esteem and confidence issues, and it is no wonder. Plastic surgeons fix imperfections, but not the heart or the the soul.

So maybe before judging another professional’s choice, wait and make your decision after the final product.
