Alchemical Sonnets<\/h2>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Four worldly indivisibles divide the sphere,<\/p>\n

Plus three unworldly to define the here:<\/p>\n

Fire, spirit, water, after, air,<\/p>\n

Before, and earth: of these six will pair;<\/p>\n

Three pairs, and spirit, again give four<\/p>\n

That mark the now, a sevenfold metaphor<\/p>\n

Much like the week: we could name the days<\/p>\n

After seven other gods, or in other ways<\/p>\n

Keep track of when we are or will be, yet<\/p>\n

We have them, and they\u2019re good enough to get<\/p>\n

Us from play to work and back: why fight the map<\/p>\n

When it\u2019s the land that needs to be explored?<\/p>\n

But mind the land: though you bridge a gap,<\/p>\n

There are chasms at hand you cannot ford.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

For every quantity, that many qualities are found:<\/p>\n

You need only look. Here is nothing profound,<\/p>\n

Merely that answers depend on what you ask:<\/p>\n

\u201cAsk, and you shall be given\u201d; so the task<\/p>\n

Is to be a Prince of Serendip: to find<\/p>\n

What\u2019s not looked for; what sleeping\u2019s divined,<\/p>\n

To wakeful accept. But wakeful is the key:<\/p>\n

Not to populate the world with fantasy,<\/p>\n

Archetypal or otherwise, but to see what\u2019s here:<\/p>\n

The Allmind\u2019s mercurial, will not speak clear<\/p>\n

If it can pun or tease, and thus tell all<\/p>\n

You need in fewer words: unroll the ball<\/p>\n

Of string, and find Jerusalem\u2019s door:<\/p>\n

The sunwise spiral in Ariadne\u2019s floor.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Crone<\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

I am the typhoon that ravages the civil lands,<\/p>\n

The wind that cries on wintry nights,<\/p>\n

That wears the mountains down to dust,<\/p>\n

The quake that tears the Earth to mountain peaks,<\/p>\n

The dance of death that beats the living down,<\/p>\n

The flood that fills the barren plain with life,<\/p>\n

The sting of bees, the teeth of bears,<\/p>\n

The gleam of madness in the poet\u2019s eye.<\/p>\n

I am She who raises and She who pulls down.<\/p>\n

I am Chaos, and I am alive.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Marriage Song of Moon and Sun<\/h2>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

I am the white and somber wench,<\/p>\n

Knife of the hunter,<\/p>\n

New of the moon.<\/p>\n

I climb the hill of the changing halves<\/p>\n

And burn in leaves of the verging trees.<\/p>\n

Leap of the shadow,<\/p>\n

Flash of the arrow,<\/p>\n

Crimson and silver I reap and weave.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

I am the gold and amber man,<\/p>\n

Sired by the sun,<\/p>\n

Born of the moon.<\/p>\n

I slay the Gorgon for my shield<\/p>\n

And take the musing Moon to wife.<\/p>\n

Sword of the father,<\/p>\n

Wand of the mother,<\/p>\n

Sunwise and whirling I ride the sea.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

I am the green and secret wife,<\/p>\n

Fire of the wedding,<\/p>\n

Bells of the sea.<\/p>\n

I wind the round of the breeding moon,<\/p>\n

O furrow the earth beneath my knees!<\/p>\n

Blue of the harpers,<\/p>\n

Gold of the pipers,<\/p>\n

Threefold and singing I plow the seed.<\/p>\n

I am the iron and scarlet man,<\/p>\n

Blow of the hammer,<\/p>\n

Cry of the steel.<\/p>\n

I riddle the secrets of the trees<\/p>\n

and lead the dance of the harvest moon.<\/p>\n

Forge of the mother,<\/p>\n

Spark of the maker,<\/p>\n

Fourfold and lightning in every nerve.<\/p>\n

I am the black and comely bitch,<\/p>\n

Pipes of the crescent,<\/p>\n

Beats of the Earth.<\/p>\n

I stir the fire of the howling night<\/p>\n

and bless the cup of the fertile seas<\/p>\n

Gongs of the dancers,<\/p>\n

Flames of the banners,<\/p>\n

Sunwise in silence I clear and sow.<\/p>\n

I am the black and violet man,<\/p>\n

Branch of renewal,<\/p>\n

Words of the owl.<\/p>\n

I guide the track of the spiral dance<\/p>\n

Across the sky and under the waves.<\/p>\n

Mask of the hero<\/p>\n

Reversed in a mirror,<\/p>\n

I am the reaper who stays to sow.<\/p>\n

We are the two who yet are one,<\/p>\n

Mind of the cosmos,<\/p>\n

Word of the real.<\/p>\n

All that is different is still the same.<\/p>\n

From us you come; to us you go.<\/p>\n

Peace to the lovers,<\/p>\n

Joy to the poets,<\/p>\n

We call you to join in the dance of love.<\/p>\n
