Here we go again. Even though sniper suspect John Allen Muhammad<\/a> seemed to be motivated<\/a> more by a $10 million payoff rather than any connection to Islam, fears in the Muslim community of another backlash<\/a> are high right now. \u201cThe whole Muslim community was praying day and night<\/a>: \u2018God, please. There has to be no connection<\/a> to Muslims,'\u201d Faiz Rehman of the American Muslim Council said Thursday. \u201cPeople in a hurry will think that this is just a Muslim thing again. The community really fears it.\u201d Although the suspect\u2019s military background and personal troubles<\/a> would seem to have more to do with these crimes than Islam, many fear that Islam will get the blame anyway. \u201cThe sniper does not represent Islam<\/a>\u201c, says Imam Abed Mubarak of Baton Rouge. \u201cHe\u2019s a criminal, and to suggest that Islam motivated the murders is offensive.\u201d \u201cIf we\u2019re going after everyone named Mohammed,\u201d wondered<\/a> New Jersey lawyer Sohail Mohammed, \u201cwhy don\u2019t we go after everyone named John?\u201d<\/p>\n
