Soccer is the bane of America\u2019s existence. At least, conservative syndicated columnist Ann Coulter thinks so. Her\u00a0latest column<\/a>\u00a0mocks and ridicules one of the world\u2019s most popular sports \u2013 attributing the dramatic spike in soccer fans in America over recent years as \u201cevidence of our nation\u2019s moral decay.\u201d<\/p>\n

As someone who recently publicly\u00a0called for organizing<\/a> of \u201cdeath squads for the people who wrecked America\u201d if immigration reform passes, it\u2019s ironic that Ms. Coulter considers herself an expert on analyzing the cause of our nation\u2019s moral decay.<\/p>\n

If we are to embark on this discussion, let\u2019s begin with Coulter\u2019s rampant\u00a0racism\u00a0and xenophobia that inspires hatred and fear towards peaceful, law-abiding immigrants across the nation. Because if we are to break down how ludicrous her beliefs are on the \u201cmoral decay\u201d caused by American soccer fans, we must first look at her twisted thoughts on immigration. After all, she begins her column by saying:<\/p>\n

\u201cIf more \u2018Americans\u2019 are watching soccer today, it\u2019s only because of the demographic switch affected by Teddy Kennedy\u2019s 1965 immigration law. I promise you: No American whose great-grandfather was born here is watching soccer. One can only hope that, in addition to learning English, these new Americans will drop their soccer fetish with time.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

So, before we\u00a0point fingers toward\u00a0the causes of our society\u2019s\u00a0detriment, let\u2019s focus on the ethics, morals and values of self-proclaimed patriots like Ms. Coulter, who\u2019s loathing of \u201cthe other\u201d has\u00a0blinded her to the fact that Europeans were once immigrants too. And let\u2019s not let Coulter forget that this great land we call home was founded after the ruthless, systematic genocide of Native Americans \u2013 its original inhabitants.<\/p>\n

According to Coulter, we have Senator Ted Kennedy to thank for the influx of immigrants who have flocked to our shores and polluted our nation. After all, he pushed forward the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965, which opened America\u2019s doors to immigrants from Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.<\/p>\n

What she blatantly\u00a0fails to mention is the fact that the vast majority of immigrants are hardworking taxpayers whose tax money\u00a0supports\u00a0American troops, enables a global U.S. military presence and funds vital federal and state programs that improve Americans\u2019 quality of life. She is too blinded by her narrow-minded, myopic views to recognize that many of these folks\u00a0are contributing members of society who are doctors, teachers, heroes, researchers, first responders, and so much more.<\/p>\n

The fact that she has the audacity to recklessly announce\u00a0\u201cno one whose great-grandfather was born here is watching soccer\u201d\u00a0indicates how little she values her own word. \u00a0No one who cherishes their credibility would dare make inaccurate blanket statements like this knowing that many generations of Americans have long been soccer fans carrying on the family tradition of following the sport.<\/p>\n

Ms. Coulter proclaims soccer fans at home are \u201cnew Americans\u201d who will \u201chopefully drop their soccer fetish and learn to speak English.\u201d Her ignorance knows no bounds. Clearly, what Ms. Coulter craves is attention. Sadly, obnoxious generalizations like this\u00a0are offensive not only to America\u2019s immigrant population, but also soccer fans and all people of conscience.<\/p>\n

One can only hope that, in addition to learning a modicum of respect for soccer enthusiasts and immigrants, Ms. Coulter doesn\u2019t drive a Japanese car, wear Italian shoes, frequent Mexican restaurants, or prefer French perfume. Otherwise,\u00a0in addition to her list of other\u00a0unflattering attributes, she must also be labeled a hypocrite.<\/p>\n

And the only thing worse than a racist bigot is a racist bigot who is also a hypocrite.<\/p>\n
