Daw Aung San Suu Kyi is in the US as an elected Burmese official, and Dissident Voice, a leading newsletter for proponents of peace and social justice, called Burma \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/dissidentvoice.org\/2012\/09\/burma-is-the-new-ngo-heaven\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">The New NGO Heaven.<\/a>\u201d Yes, things are looking up for Burma in amazing ways. Yet, as Suu Kyi, often known simply as \u201cThe Lady\u201d has said, it could be reversed:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cUnder the present constitution, the army can always take over all parts of government if they think this is necessary. So until the army comes out clearly and consistently in support of the democratic process, we cannot say that it\u2019s irreversible. But I don\u2019t think we need fear a reversal too much either,\u201d she said. \u2013 (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.voanews.com\/content\/aung-san-suu-kyi-begins-us-visit\/1510124.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">VOA<\/a>)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Aung San Suu Kyi Talks Burma Reforms With VOA\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/pl_rrSlLlqk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<p>Meanwhile the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.salem-news.com\/articles\/september202012\/buddhist-killers-burma-tk.php\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">ongoing persecution and murder of the Rohingya<\/a> must be ended. From what I have seen, this is as much an ethnic and racial issue as it is a religious one, but as those carrying out the attrocities are mostly Buddhist and thus strive to live by Buddhist ideals, it is important for Buddhists everywhere to understand the issue and call for the end of violence there.
