Activists around the world are reaching out and stepping up their efforts. And with over 100 self-immolations now in Tibet, this region, currently occupied by China, is a chief area of focus. The latest such immolation is a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/hostednews\/afp\/article\/ALeqM5h0sBXxCCWaIfCyQcoxfdYHIA7cwg?docId=CNG.c1441426bef1f8acfab75b89f3927416.9f1\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">16 year old girl<\/a>\u00a0in the Tibetan province of Amdo, currently ruled as\u00a0China\u2019s northwestern province of Qinghai (click <a href=\"http:\/\/www.friends-of-tibet.org.nz\/tibet.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">here<\/a> for a map and pre-1959 history).<\/p>\n<p>According to news reports, China\u2019s only response has been to <a href=\"http:\/\/articles.chicagotribune.com\/2012-12-09\/news\/sns-rt-us-china-tibetbre8b80ff-20121209_1_immolations-restive-tibetan-regions-protest-chinese-rule\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">tighten its already suffocating grip<\/a> on the region.<\/p>\n<p>I think it\u2019s safe to say that this is the most pressing global issue facing Buddhists today. Burma is not perfect, especially for several ethnic minority groups, worst off among them being the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/programmes\/aljazeerainvestigates\/2012\/12\/2012125122215836351.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Muslim Rohingyas<\/a>. Sri Lanka still has its troubles with corruption and ongoing, though less severe, <a href=\"http:\/\/https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sri_Lankan_Tamil_people#End_of_the_civil_war\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">repression of ethnic Tamils<\/a>. But no situation in the world seems so acute and so tragic as Tibet today.<\/p>\n<p>A particular call to action has come from Tibetans around the world, recording a message for their particular head of state. <strong>For a pull at the heart-strings, watch 13 year-old Tenzin Tsundue make her plea to President Obama:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=QUDKTAiwR8c\">http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=QUDKTAiwR8c<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Here, Tenzin Lobsang of Canada and Tibet explains her desire for Tibetan autonomy, based on what is happening today in Tibet:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Tenzin Lobsang&#039;s message to Prime Minister Harper : @PMharper Tibet Needs You Now!\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/9spoY3baDc4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The news organization Link Asia recently reported on the self immolations, interviewing\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.columbia.edu\/cu\/weai\/faculty\/barnett.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">Columbia University professor Robert Barnett<\/a>\u00a0and compiling recent clips of leaders, including President Barack Obama, discussing Tibet\/China.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=GNlzSlD6m30\">http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=GNlzSlD6m30<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Even the internet hacker-activist group \u201canonymous\u201d is getting involved.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=p9pqZer1oiw\">http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=p9pqZer1oiw<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Here is a bit more from the group Anonymous (thanks to a twitter follower for making me double check!):<\/p>\n<p>Via <a href=\"http:\/\/hackread.com\/anonymous-op_tibet-set-for-10th-december\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">hackread.com<\/a>: The group has also released a press release for the upcoming #Op_Tibet, according to the release:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Any violation, injustice or censorship imposed\u00a0upon\u00a0the individual\u00a0citizens\u00a0of the world is an offence to anyone or normal\u00a0intelligence\u00a0 compassion and integrity.\u00a0There is no place for selective outrage or double-think in the cause to oppose such abuse and\u00a0oppression, it is not a\u00a0matter\u00a0of left versus right or free market forces being more iniquitous then socialist economic models.\u00a0Wherever\u00a0people\u2019s rights or national freedom is being violently denied, where freedom of expression is rewarded with prison or torture then there is an ethical imperative for anyone of conscience to expose and oppose such cases.\u00a0With that in mind @AnonymousTibet seeks the solidarity and active support of fellow #Anons to take-up action against the Chinese Regime which, apart from suppressing its own people, is terrorizing Tibetans and enforcing a\u00a0genocidal\u00a0occupation of Tibet.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">And Reuters is just now reporting that thousands have marched to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/2012\/12\/10\/us-china-usa-tibet-idUSBRE8B91AW20121210\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">protest Chinese rule of Tibet in NY City<\/a> (with photos).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Please spread the word (links to do so below).<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today, December 10, is Global Human Rights Day.
