Of course Mac-fan psychology being what it is, nothing that ever goes wrong on a Mac is the Mac’s fault – it’s always the program, the hardware (even if it’s internal, Mac hardware, it’s not the Mac’s fault), or the user(s). Yes, to you of the Mac ideology, I’m a ‘bitter PC stalwart.’

But in truth I’ll happily accept that Macs are faster with lots of things and sturdier overall – and I can’t wait for my girlfriend to buy one so I can play with it. But I think I can honestly say that everyone I know with a Mac has either had a major hardware failure – just like any PC – or a major software problem that could only be solved by a PC (Sjors, my friend in London being one exception, and even he noted with a frown that the speakers on his Macbook sucked compared with those on my PC). In the end I think the wise thing to say is, “it depends on what you do.” If you’re a causal user who wants ease and easy solutions and compatability and flexibility, get a PC, if you want power and sleek and are willing to pay money for the ‘experience‘ of a Mac, get a Mac.

And today at least the proof was in the puddin’:

Two lovely Macs that couldn’t ‘recognize’ the projector for today’s press conference (I know, not the Macs’ fault).

And my little HP, connected and projecting in about 20 seconds (most of that being the time it took to turn on the projector).

A sad day for Mac fans here in Missoula.
