line-height: 19px;\">8 or 9 small explosions took place early this morning in and around the Mahabodhi Temple today<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\">at least two foreign monks were injured (one Tibetan and one from Burma\/Myanmar)<\/span><\/li>\n<li>no one was killed<\/li>\n<li>one person has been detained by police for questioning<\/li>\n<li>Immediate response from the\u00a0Bauddh Commune International (local <a href='https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/library\/buddhism' target='_blank'>Buddhist<\/a> group) was a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hindustantimes.com\/India-news\/Bihar\/Nine-blasts-in-30-minutes-Buddha-s-abode-bombed-in-Bodh-Gaya\/Article1-1088883.aspx\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">peace vigil<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\">You can watch IBN\u2019s latest coverage here:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=akNUxeYVb5c\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=akNUxeYVb5c<\/a><\/p>\n<p>While the response of the local Buddhists speaks volumes, I find it helpful to look at the words of great Buddhists in times like these.\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\">The Buddha himself had simple enough advice:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-2665\" title=\"buddha-gandhari2\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/83\/2013\/07\/buddha-gandhari2-209x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"167\" height=\"240\"><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>\u201cHatred is not overcome by hatred,<br>\n<\/strong><strong style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\">By love alone is hatred overcome.<br>\n<\/strong><strong style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\">This is an eternal law.\u201d<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>\u2014- Dhammapada v.5<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>\u201cAll tremble at the rod.<br>\nAll fear death.<br>\n<\/strong><strong style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\">Comparing others with oneself,<br>\none should neither strike nor cause to strike.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\">\u2014- Dhammapada v.129<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\">Indeed. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\">Simply sitting with these verses is enough.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>While we may send our wishes \u2013 for healing, for love, for support \u2013 to those effected, let us not forget the perpetrators who also tremble, fear, and hold great pain inside them.<\/strong> And let us not forget those hurt and killed in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/world-us-canada-23215855\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Canada crude oil train explosion<\/a>, in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/8301-201_162-57592549\/asiana-airlines-flight-214-crew-seemed-surprised-by-crash-in-san-francisco\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">airplane crash in San Francisco<\/a>, or the <a href=\"http:\/\/chicago.cbslocal.com\/2013\/07\/06\/at-least-7-dead-38-others-wounded-in-holiday-weekend-shootings\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">nine dead and dozens wounded in Chicago<\/a> over the weekend, just to name a few other examples of the profound suffering to be found in this human existence.<\/p>\n<p>Let us not talk of ourselves as victims or\u00a0<em>them<\/em> as murderers, but rather let us see our common, very flawed, humanity and ask:<\/p>\n<p><strong>how can we make it
