Unbenownst to me, my mother (aunt of the bride) had spread rumors that I was a great photographer, so I was recruited as a back-up photographer. At one point a cousin even asked me if I was “doing photography for a living now.” Sheesh. Mom. Come on.

Like many of us, there are two distinct sides of my family: the sane side (my father’s) and the crazy side (my mom’s). This was my mother’s side. So on the 12 hour car ride down from Montana, I was given a laundry list of “what to do when…” Mostly it was X drinks too much or if Y starts talking politics. Fairly typical stuff.

Luckily, everything went amazingly smoothly. At one point my grandma struck up a conversation about China and asked me, “do they just expect us to do everything?” To which I replied, “Actually, gramma, they seem to be doing pretty well themselves.” She got up and left, much to everyone at the table’s amusement. In the end it was a delight to reconnect with this side of the family again; people who are not so far away but whom we see so rarely. The wedding was a great success, much to the credit of the bride, my cousin Caitlin, who maintained her composure with a wonderful sense of humor through it all.

So, before I head out for another loooong run, here are a few photos:

Sunset over the Rockies just north of Denver.

The maid of honor and James, Caitlin’s 3 year-old son, making their way down the aisle.

The bride and her groom, Andy.

James jumps in for a photo-op!

Lighting the Unity Candle.

The obligatory bubbles gauntlet.

My uncles: Larry on the left, Gary (father of the bride) pouring champagne, and Bill.

Preparing to cut the cake.
