Beware the pitfalls of comparative philosophy\/ethics.<\/li>\n<li>Keown\u2019s understanding of Buddhist Ethics (Aristotelian)<\/li>\n<li>Kant vs Aristotle<\/li>\n<li>Kant\u2019s Ethics<\/li>\n<ol>\n<li>Feelings\/Respect  \u2014  Freedom\/Autonomy  \u2014  Duty <\/li>\n<li>Politics\/Self-Development  \u2014  Result: Kingdom of Ends<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<li>Buddhism as Kantian<\/li>\n<ol>\n<li>Buddhism and Reason<\/li>\n<li>Buddhism and Freedom\/Autonomy\u2026<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Sept 25, 2005:<\/span> <a href=\"http:\/\/americanbuddhist.blogspot.com\/2005\/09\/philosophy-on-kantbuddhism-and-good.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Kant\/Buddhism on the Good Life<\/a>: review of current Buddhological attitudes (Buddhism is Aristotelian) and an attempt to show the non-teleological nature of Buddhist soteriology.  Likewise for Kant, a clear deontologist with we\u2019ll say <span style=\"font-style: italic\">pragmatic<\/span> overatures toward a virtue-ethics. <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>For both Kant and Buddhism, their is a process given\/prescribed to take the individual away from egotistical life: the ever pressing desires and inclinations, and toward altruistic morality.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Kant\u2019s three steps \u2013 <span style=\"font-style: italic\">think for yourself<\/span>, listen, and be consistent.  And Buddhism\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cains.com\/bucha\/kalama.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span style=\"font-style: italic\">Kalama Sutta<\/span><\/a>. Knowing for oneself \u2013  the emphasis on just <span style=\"font-style: italic\">giving<\/span>, living \u201cfully in and through the <span style=\"font-style: italic\">dharma<\/span>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Jan 31, 2008<\/span>: <a href=\"http:\/\/justininengland.blogspot.com\/2008\/01\/back-on-and-in-search-of-buddhist.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">In Search of Buddhist Ethics<\/a>: Working with Howard on Kant, away from his empty formulas.
