<\/iframe><\/p>\nThe celebrated author, feminist, teacher, and scholar said in a video uploaded last week: \u201cI can no longer be a Hillary Clinton supporter!\u201d<\/p>\nShe continued, \u201cthere are certain things that I don\u2019t want to cosign in the name of feminism that I think are militarist, imperialist, white supremacist, whether they are conducted by women or men.\u201d She noted that this is a difficult issue for women who want to see a woman president and there is a conflict between, \u201cidentity politics versus\u00a0who are you and what do you stand for? That\u2019s why [James] Baldwin says it\u2019s not a question of whether you\u2019re gay or straight or black or white: what do you stand for? Who are you? How can you know that<\/em> \u2013 and operate from that position of power?\u201d<\/p>\nThe video appears to have come from a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.javiersoriano.com\/blog\/2014\/10\/07\/bell-hooks-residency-at-the-new-school-photosvideos\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">2014 conference at The New School<\/a>, but as many of the same worries have been raised in recent months, it has garnered new attention, including <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ShaunKing\/status\/708383315208744961\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">this tweet from writer Shaun King<\/a>.<\/p>\nIt also coincides with the announcement of the forthcoming release of a book called\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/1QKJrSS\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">False Choices: The Faux Feminism of Hillary Rodham Clinton<\/a><\/span> by Liza Featherstone (Editor) with contributions\u00a0from prominent feminist writers Laura Flanders,\u00a0Moe Tkacik,\u00a0Medea Benjamin, Frances Fox Piven and Fred Block, Donna Murch, Kathleen Geier, Yasmin Nair, Megan Erickson, Tressie McMillan Cottom, Catherine Liu, Amber A\u2019Lee Frost, Margaret Corvid, Bel\u00e9n Fern\u00e1ndez, Zillah Eisenstein<\/strong>, and others. See more <a href=\"http:\/\/www.versobooks.com\/books\/2121-false-choices\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">here<\/a>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\nIn a recent article, author Liza Featherstone <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thenation.com\/article\/why-this-socialist-feminist-is-not-voting-for-hillary\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">writes<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><\/span>Socialist feminism assumes that redistribution is the best way to begin improving life for the vast majority of women, both materially and socially. To take a none-too-radical example, in countries like Denmark and \u2028Sweden\u2014which offer a broad range of social benefits provided through the state rather than acquired in desperation, as they so often are here, through marriage or a job\u2014women can live more comfortably; raise healthier, more secure children; and sleep with whomever they please. Throughout her long career, Clinton has demonstrated contempt for turning this project into policy.<\/p>\n<\/span> <\/span><\/span>As first lady of Arkansas, she led the efforts by her husband\u2019s administration to weaken teachers\u2019 unions and scapegoat teachers\u2014most of them women, large numbers of them black\u2014for problems in the education system, implementing performance measures and firings that set a punitive tone for education reform nationwide.
