And <span style=\"font-style: italic\">who<\/span> prayed to him on my behalf?<\/p>\n<p>Not that I believe in all of that, but I <span style=\"font-style: italic\">did<\/span> just thumb through my teaching evaluations for this spring.  <span style=\"font-style: italic;font-weight: bold\">And things are good.  Surprisingly good.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p>My other thought is that, as terrible as it is that I\u2019m becoming my father, I\u2019m also becoming my mother.  My father groans audibly to express his moods, unwittingly tells lousy jokes, and sings\/hums songs poorly.  I groan more than he does (my housemates have tried to work out a vocabulary for my happy groans vs frustrated vs sleepy\u2026), I generally refuse to tell jokes, and try hard not to sing around other people.  My mother worries \u2013 about everything (I <span style=\"font-style: italic\">do <\/span>exaggerate a bit) \u2013 incessantly\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Now perhaps I\u2019ve just been doing the same regarding my teaching.  <span style=\"font-style: italic;font-weight: bold\">I really thought at least one or two of them would have bottled up all kinds of their own frustration over the course and would unleash it on the evaluations. <\/span> But no.<\/p>\n<p>The harshest evaluation said I should make the intro to <a href='https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/library\/buddhism' target='_blank'>Buddhism<\/a> course a prerequisite so we don\u2019t have to re-cover that material early on; that I should \u2018expect less\u2019 [from the students], and that my grade as an instructor is B.<\/p>\n<p>Others said things [about me] like:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><i>Very knowledgeable, answers questions lucidly, genuine interest and appreciation for material.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Easily approachable, knowledgeable, competent.<\/p>\n<p>Concise, well-organized, relaxed but enthusiastic.<\/p>\n<p>[my favorite] <i>Extreme amount of understanding.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Very intelligent, kind, interesting, understanding and available.<\/p>\n<p>Clear speaker, available, willing to help.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>And so on\u2026 Nothing like, \u201cOMG he knows EVERYTHING!!!\u201d but then that would have been wayyyyyy over the top, but I am utterly delighted by the consistent appreciation expressed by the students.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;font-style: italic\">I suppose I can stop worrying and do some work.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"blogger-post-footer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" src=\"https:\/\/blogger.googleusercontent.com\/tracker\/7907151-6314242285124875205?l=americanbuddhist.blogspot.com\" alt=\"\"><\/div>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Who\u2019s the patron saint of lost causes?
