Until now. The main reason is <span style=\"font-style: italic\">Balance<\/span>. The theoretical discussion of late has been fantastic (my heartfelt thanks to Zen Unbound and Nacho along with others who have chimed in and\/or got us started), but it is a bit heady, and I just found this on one of my <a href=\"http:\/\/www.patiastephens.com\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">favorite local blogs<\/a> and thought that this is the time for me to fill one of these silly things out (to ground me a bit).<\/p>\n<p>So, here goes\u2026<br><span style=\"font-weight: bold\"><br>I drive\u2026<\/span><br>Whatever my parents lend me.  When it\u2019s warm, I bike.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">If I have time to myself\u2026<\/span><br>I\u2019m in a place where I can honestly say that nothing is demanded of me that I didn\u2019t choose. So I have a hard time differentiating \u2018me-time\u2019 from anything else. I go to the gym, listen to NPR, listen to Ken Wilber, read (mostly philosophy, but also recently the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/0872864286\/montanafreethink\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">poetry of Pablo Neruda<\/a>), cook spicy Indian food\u2026<br><span class=\"post-body\"><br><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">You wouldn\u2019t know it but I\u2019m very good at\u2026<\/span><br>1. digital music remixing<br>2. listening to loved ones<br>3. cooking (Chinese and Indian food)<br>4. hosting parties<br>5. tinkering with electronics and mechanical things<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">I\u2019m no good at\u2026<\/span><br>1. most social situations<br>2. meeting new people<br>3. finding interest in topics outside <a href='https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/library\/buddhism' target='_blank'>Buddhism<\/a> and Philosophy (explains 1 and 2)<br>4. Abiding in the middle way for long (the extremes are just too attractive)<br>5. Keeping in touch with old friends<br><span class=\"post-body\"><br><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">A book that changed me\u2026<\/span><font> (I\u2019ll make it \u2018books\u2019)<\/font><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: bold\"><font><br><span style=\"font-weight: bold\"><\/span><\/font><\/span><font><font><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/0385121687\/montanafreethink\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Stand<\/a> \u2013 Stephen King (age 12)<span style=\"font-weight: bold\"><br><\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/0446671002\/montanafreethink\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Celestine Prophesy<\/a> (age 17) (interesting to read the Amazon reviews \u2013 they tear it to shreds \u2013 perhaps I should go back and have a second look at this one)<br>Dostoevsky\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/0553211757\/montanafreethink\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Crime and Punishment<\/a>  (age 19)<br>The Bible (age 19)<br><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/1877733075\/montanafreethink\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Losing Faith in Faith<\/a> (age 20)  (a necessary trauma to the would-be Christian)<br><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/0938077112\/montanafreethink\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Heart of Understanding<\/a> \u2013 Thich Nhat Hanh (age 20)<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p>As they say, it\u2019s all been down hill from there.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Movie heaven\u2026<\/span><br>(looking back) My ex-girlfriend\u2019s bed, a glass of wine, some delivered food and the remote, a snowy day and snuggling. (that being my 30-something ex \u2013 she was the movie buff. I\u2019m less about movies and more about who I\u2019m with. So these days, being single, I don\u2019t watch many movies.)<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Comfort eating\u2026<\/span><br>Beer (if that counts as \u2018eating\u2019), sometimes chocolate, sometimes french-fries (with cheese if I\u2019m feeling particularly in need).<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">When I was a child, I wanted to be\u2026<\/span><br>a farmer, a witch (I was informed by siblings that I \u2018meant\u2019 warlock), a banker<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">All my (spare) money goes on\u2026<\/span><br>As with time, money has little concrete meaning to me. Technically I live on borrowed money, so I can\u2019t call any of it \u2018spare\u2019 (or I can call all of it \u2018spare\u2019).<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">At night I dream of\u2026<\/span><br>I don\u2019t recall many of my dreams. I know I had a reoccurring nightmare when I was in kindergarten, but none since, despite many nightmares and other notable dreams. I should start a dream journal. I\u2019d like to get into <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dreamviews.com\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">lucid dreaming<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">My favourite building\u2026<\/span><br><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sacredsites.com\/asia\/tibet\/potala_palace.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Potala Palace<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">My biggest regret\u2026<\/span><br>Even my biggest mistakes (screwing up <a href=\"http:\/\/americanbuddhist.blogspot.com\/2005\/10\/life-3-of-4-her-name-means-lamb-of-god.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">the relationship with the Catholic girl<\/a> I dated when I was 19) have brought me to where I am, here, now.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">If I wasn\u2019t me I\u2019d like to be\u2026<\/span><br>The Dalai Lama (he giggles soooooo much! I love it!) or Thich Nhat Hanh (peace emanates from his very core, unencumbered by ego as is the case with so many of the rest of us).<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">My favourite work of art\u2026<\/span><br>I have <a href=\"http:\/\/www.syrculturalworkers.com\/catimages\/p515.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">this painting<\/a> hanging behind me.  I also like Picasso and Van Gogh, Da Vinci and Michelangelo.  I also love and admire <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pacificasiamuseum.org\/buddhism\/index.htm\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">the many forms of Buddhist art<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">The soundtrack to my life\u2026<\/span><br>It would start off raucous and bold, but hopefully soften a bit, then move into something engaging and thoughtful, though still loud. Hehe\u2026 Maybe Nirvana (the band), then<a href=\"http:\/\/americanbuddhist.blogspot.com\/2005\/11\/buddhism-music-to-find-your-middle.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"> the Japanese flute<\/a>, then perhaps <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mtfreethinkers.org\/Beethoven%20-%20Symphony%20No.%209%20in%20D%20minor,%20op125%20Presto-Allegro%20assai%20%28movements%202%20and%203%29.mp3\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">a nice Beethoven concerto<\/a> PLAY THIS LOUD!, it takes some time, but it\u2019s worth it (like me, haha).<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">The best invention ever\u2026<\/span><br>The violin or the printing press.<\/p>\n<div class=\"blogger-post-footer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" src=\"https:\/\/blogger.googleusercontent.com\/tracker\/7907151-113178947965505744?l=americanbuddhist.blogspot.com\" alt=\"\"><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I\u2019ve seen lots of fill-in-your-own questionnaires on blogs, but never felt the need to toss one on my own blog.
