A friend asked me the other day, \u201cWhat are my top 5 values\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n
I stumbled over my answer and I think I gave her three, and I don\u2019t even remember what those were, so I\u2019m pretty sure that means they aren\u2019t really in my top 5 values. But it got me thinking about Paul, particularly in Philippians, the famous, \u201ccursing verse,\u201d where he says,<\/p>\n
\u201cI consider everything a loss\u2026\u00a0\u00a0I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ.\u201d (Philippians \u00a03:8)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Paul here is in a way giving us his list of values\u2026 He\u2019s saying, \u201cI value Jesus, thats it. Everything else in comparison is trash.\u201d And we see this play out, through his life painted in the New Testament.<\/p>\n
The question I have for myself, and hopefully you can find it useful also, is, \u201cDo people see this same value for\u00a0Jesus, that Paul had, play out in my own life?\u201d<\/p>\n
For me, I think what it comes down to, is where I\u2019m at in relation to Jesus\u2026<\/p>\n
This is gonna hurt to type out but\u2026<\/p>\n
\u2026 I think in the recent days, I\u2019ve been far more obsessed with success and my own personal well being than I have been with Jesus.<\/strong><\/p>\n
Dang.<\/p>\n
I don\u2019t think it\u2019s about the clutter, or busyness that I find in my life, I think it\u2019s more so about the clutter going on in my heart. Because to be honest \u2013 there\u2019s always time, it\u2019s just whether or not you value this relationship enough to make, or rather, set aside that time.<\/p>\n
In Soren Kierkegaard\u2019s book, Purity of Heart is to Will One Thing (as\u00a0<\/em>if the title wasn\u2019t enough to speak to my situation) he goes on and says,<\/p>\n
What is all that he knows, vast accumulation though it be, but a chipped fragment if he does not know Thee! What is all his striving, could it even encompass a world, but a half-finished work if he does not know Thee: Thee the One, who art one thing and who art all!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Jesus says it more plainly, \u201cWhat good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?\u201d<\/p>\n
It\u2019s not about putting Jesus at the top of your list, so much as it\u2019s about making Jesus the entirety of your list\u2026<\/p>\n
Everything you say or do, flows out from your relationship, value, and\u00a0love\u00a0<\/strong>for, with, and from Jesus\u2026 I know it\u2019s simple, but in the end I guess all I\u2019m saying is, it\u2019s all about Jesus.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n
\u2026 and I don\u2019t mean that in the \u201ccliche, over said\u201d type way, I mean it in the, \u201cI\u2019m literally willing to die for you\u201d\u00a0<\/strong>type way\u2026<\/p>\n
So I guess the question is the same, if you were to ask your friends, if they thought you were undeniably 100% all about Jesus, what do you think they\u2019d say?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
