World military spending totaled more than $1.6 trillion in 2015. The U.S. accounted for<b>\u00a037 percent<\/b>\u00a0of the total[1].\u201d<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h2>What Would Happen if We Cut Our Militaries Budget in Half\u2026?<\/h2>\n<p class=\"p4\">Currently, our military budget is 597\u00a0billion USD. Recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2018\/03\/28\/politics\/us-military-spending-items-intl\/index.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">CNN has said<\/a> that Trump \u201capproved what his administration calls the largest military budget in US history, $700 billion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ve heard the statistics and seen graphs like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalpriorities.org\/campaigns\/us-military-spending-vs-world\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">these<\/a> comparing our budgeting to various other countries\u2026<\/p>\n<p>But, yet, our world has never been safer as the Human Security report says that we live in the most peaceful time in human history. So, then, just for fun, I wanted to entertain what would happen if we cut our\u00a0militaries budget in half\u2026<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-657206\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/604\/2018\/05\/Vox-World-wide-Battle-Deaths-per-100000-Andy-Gill-Patheos-What-Would-Happen-If-We-Cut-Our-Militaries-Budget-In-Half.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"301\"><\/p>\n<p>Better said\u2026 or, to put it another way: what could we actually do 300 billion dollars or less in place of purchasing more drones, or jets we don\u2019t even really utilize.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Mind you, that with our recent increase in military funds cutting our budget in half by $350 billion dollars would still leave us several billion \u201cpaces\u201d ahead of China\u2019s (#2) military expenditures\u2026<\/p>\n<p>(<strong>side note<\/strong>: there\u2019s six of these I list here, I only break them into two sections. So, while I\u2019m \u201clowkey\u201d desperate for clicks these days\u2026 it\u2019s a good kind of \u201cI\u2019m meeting y\u2019all in the middle\u201d type of thing\u2026)<\/p>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<h3><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-657218\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/604\/2018\/05\/Screen-Shot-2018-05-08-at-2.36.59-PM.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"402\"><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span class=\"s2\">Pay for Flint Michigans pipe replacements.<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"s2\">As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2016\/04\/22\/flints-crisis-can-be-fixed-with-55m-in-new-pipes-lansing-mayor.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">CNBC<\/a> reports that over the next year new pipes would cost approximately 55 million dollars. That\u2019s literally 1.5% of the defense budget. It\u2019s been 4 years since it\u2019s been a nationally known crisis. It\u2019s still not fixed yet, y\u2019all.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>End <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>world<\/em><\/span> hunger.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>You read this correctly. Not \u201cend hunger only in the US\u2026\u201d but, literally end world hunger. It\u2019s said that just $30 Billion would feed the world for an entire year. Meaning, $350 billion would end it for 15 years. Because, if that\u2019s true then, it points to the absolutely disgusting reality, that is our world, today. We\u2019re so afraid and misinformed by falsified \u201cthreat levels\u201d that we\u2019re willing to turn a blind on those starving and dying from a lack of basic necessities.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Buyback every civilian owned <\/strong>gun<strong> in the country. <\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>I mean, if we hate gun violence so aching much, then I think this buy back plan is a good start.<\/p>\n<div class=\"author-info byline-unit\"><span class=\"author\"><a class=\"name decorated-link\" href=\"https:\/\/aplus.com\/u\/camillelawhead\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Camille Lawhead <\/a>mentioned that\u00a0<\/span>\u201cPopular\u00a0gun buy-back programs usually give up to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.smallarmssurvey.org\/fileadmin\/docs\/H-Research_Notes\/SAS-Research-Note-9.pdf\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span class=\"s1\">$200 per piece<\/span><\/a>. There are an estimated\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/politics\/archive\/2012\/12\/why-not-privatize-new-york-citys-gun-buy-back-program\/266678\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span class=\"s1\">270 million civilian-owned guns<\/span><\/a>\u00a0in the country. They could be melted into such a nice dog statue.\u201d It\u2019d be dope if inner city churches went out on their own accord and began to buy back guns. I mean, summer is in motion, pastors (that aren\u2019t youth pastors) things are slowing down a bit; not a bad idea for the summer.<\/div>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<h3><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-656119\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/604\/2017\/10\/Was-Jesus-Pro-Life-or-Pro-Choice-Andy-Gill-e1509480264105.png\" alt=\"Was Jesus Pro-Life or Pro-Choice Andy Gill\" width=\"550\" height=\"550\"><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>End Child Poverty in the US<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>I mean, <a href=\"https:\/\/talkpoverty.org\/2017\/12\/12\/u-s-eliminate-child-poverty-cost-senate-tax-bill\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Talkpoverty.org<\/a> says that \u201cAccording to the U.S. Census Bureau, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.census.gov\/data\/tables\/time-series\/demo\/income-poverty\/cps-pov\/pov-28.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span class=\"s1\">5.7 million<\/span><\/a>\u00a0poor families with children would need an average of $11,400 more to live above the poverty line in 2016.\u201d That\u2019s insane.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Literally, end homelessness\u2026 <\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>It\u2019s said that \u201cThe cost to house one of the over\u00a0610,000 homeless people in the United States is estimated at\u00a0$10,051.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vox.com\/2014\/5\/30\/5764096\/its-three-times-cheaper-to-give-housing-to-the-homeless-than-to-keep\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Vox<\/a> even goes so far as pointing to the fact that it\u2019s literally 3 times cheaper to give housing to the homeless\u2026 as opposed to just \u201cleaving them on the streets[3].<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Purchase a solar panel for each individual in NYC<\/strong>.<\/h3>\n<p>There are approximately 8.5 million people in NYC. Solar Panels are said to cost $12,500 this would equal out to $106.25 billion. And, not to mention, this would in return not just be an investment for mother earth but, it would also be in investment in our overall health; financially reducing the amount individuals spend annually on health care and therefore creating a healthier and more productive city (that already never sleeps)\u2026 #capitalism!<\/p>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-657203\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/604\/2018\/05\/F-35-Vox-Andy-Gill-Patheos-What-Would-Happen-If-We-Cut-Our-Militaries-Budget-In-Half.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"287\"><\/p>\n<p>And look, this is the problem with politics\u2026<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Much of our Military\/Defense budget provides for jobs across our country. Doing away with this budget will do away with thousands of jobs within the US. I think they call this part of the \u201cMilitary Industrial Complex\u201d(?).<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Which is partially why <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ba63OVl1MHw\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">this particular jet fighter<\/a> is said to be a disaster yet, Congress is said to keep backing it\u2026.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">I\u2019m left wondering, as profitable as \u201cwar\u201d is\u2026 can there not be another way for these corporate juggernauts to continue increasing their financial quarterlies without having to be so militant (literally)?<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Part of our defense is taking care of the people that live within our borders and not just attacking people who live outside of them. As we\u2019re getting savvier, technologically speaking, what if we also became a bit more creative in loving our so-called \u201cenemies\u201d by creating and designing better technology to help feed and empower the oppressed?<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Again, what do I know? Truly.
