The Solar Return chart is a chart that is cast for the exact moment the Sun in the sky returns to the same degree as the natal chart. \u00a0Many astrologers use the Solar Return chart to forecast the details of the next twelve months in an individual\u2019s life \u2013 I don\u2019t care to use it for that purpose because I believe that we have a great deal of free choice and I prefer to encourage my clients to learn to trust their inner voice and not depend on what they are told by astrologers. \u00a0If there is a chance of a hurricane you will probably not cancel your vacation \u2013 you will hope for the best and go on your vacation, and then if that hurricane does come you can always change your plans. \u00a0But it\u2019s helpful to know that there is a chance of a storm so you can make a contingency plan.<\/p>\n

The chart for the\u00a0USA Solar Return<\/a>\u00a0is a challenging one with a Grand Cross in cardinal planets lining up the Moon in Libra\u00a0in opposition to Uranus in Aries, \u00a0squaring the Sun in Cancer opposing Pluto in Capricorn. \u00a0A Grand Cross creates tremendous tension that culminates in a crisis of release and ultimate transformation, and the presence of a Grand Cross in a Solar Return chart suggests that there will almost certainly be a major shift in governmental forces and political alignments in 2014.<\/p>\n

The Sun in the US chart lives in the Seventh House. \u00a0Today we think of the Seventh House as the house of marriage and partnership but in traditional astrology it was also the house of \u201copen enemies.\u201d \u00a0The political power base in this country thrives on uniting the nation against a common enemy, and in today\u2019s world there are enemies everywhere. \u00a0Politicians want to send our troops back into Iraq, Syria, Sudan, Ukraine, to Mexico \u2013 the enemies are now too numerous to fight with an already weakened infrastructure (thanks to Pluto in Capricorn).<\/p>\n

This is a challenging time for the USA in any case\u00a0because of the transits of Uranus and Pluto which is directly affecting the US Sun. \u00a0Despite the denial machine of the conservative think tanks, American power is on the wane as I wrote back in 2012<\/a>. \u00a0The combination of this Solar Return chart with the planetary transits affecting the US chart at this time suggest that 2014 will be the year that it becomes painfully obvious that the world has changed and the United States needs to adjust with it.<\/p>\n
