Why? Yes, it\u2019s St. Valentine\u2019s and all that, but guys! Audrey Assad\u2019s new album Heart<\/em> was released today!\u00a0I was lucky enough to get a few pre-release copies, and I held a listening party at Steubie. Check it out:<\/p>\n<\/iframe>\nThe album is absolutely brilliant. So much of Audrey\u2019s first album is completed by it \u2014 the questions asked in The House You\u2019re Building are answered in Heart. (Not that that takes away from mystery and beauty contained in Heart, not by any stretch. The lyrics are just as probing, frank and provoking:<\/p>\nDon\u2019t lie to yourself<\/em> \n O my Soul<\/em> \n Love your God<\/em><\/p>\nand:<\/p>\nFar off hymns and funeral marches<\/em> \n sound the same again<\/em> \n my ears are worn and weary strangers<\/em> \n in a strange land\u2026<\/em><\/p>\nand all I am is breath and vapor<\/em> \n and shadow<\/em> \n and all I have is what I need<\/em> \n this I know<\/em><\/p>\nthat I need a new song.<\/em><\/p>\nIt\u2019s all very glorious, and maintains that rich sacramentalism that makes Audrey\u2019s work so very Catholic, and catholic besides. She\u2019s one of the very few \u201cChristian artists\u201d striving after beauty, and I applaud her for it.<\/p>\nIf you never spend money on a single thing I\u00a0recommend, spend it on this.
