In the last month, lots of my facebook friends have taken to posting something new that they are grateful for each day. This little game has annoyed the hell out of me, for no good reason at all actually. But today, seeing as how it\u2019s a day in which we gather to give thanks for the freedom and bounty and pies which this land has afforded us, I figured I might as well take off my crotchety pants and join in the fun.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u2026the fog outside, which is transforming an ordinary Dallas street into a little bit of something magical.\u00a0<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u2026my sister-in-law, who is letting me make the stuffing this year <\/a>even though it\u2019s her first year to run the Thanksgiving show.\u00a0<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u2026Doctor Who, which my children are watching behind me as I type.\u00a0<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u2026the fact that they\u2019re making a Doctor Who movie.<\/a><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u2026my blog, and all my readers who encouraged me to keep writing through pregnancy<\/a>, labor<\/a> and delivery<\/a>, moving<\/a>, putting my foot in my mouth<\/a>, struggling with depression,<\/a> and drinking myself under the table<\/a>.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u2026my blogging friends, especially Grace<\/a>, Dwija<\/a>, Leila<\/a>, Kassie<\/a>, Sarah<\/a>, and\u00a0Melanie<\/a>.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u2026my brother-in-law and his wife, who have welcomed us so completely into their home, given us two rooms, and put up with my children who refuse to sleep at night.\u00a0<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u2026my parents, for being so supportive, for loving my kids so much, and for always being there for me.\u00a0<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u2026my mom, for grasping the severity of the situation with Liam quicker than I did and for keeping a calm head during that agonizing car ride.\u00a0<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u2026modern medicine and the invention of the epi pen.\u00a0<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u2026coffee.\u00a0<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u2026mashed potatoes.\u00a0<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u2026hot showers.\u00a0<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u2026my three healthy, happy, infuriating children.\u00a0<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u2026my hairy husband.\u00a0<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u2026the University of Dallas, for everything it has given me, including my hairy husband.\u00a0<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u2026my brothers and sister and my sweet sister-in-law.\u00a0<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u2026my mother-in-law, for teaching me to appreciate the mixing of foods.\u00a0<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u2026my father-in-law, for teaching me the importance of saying exactly what you mean, unless you want to spend the next two hours in the Study of Doom.\u00a0<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u2026my niece and my nephews.\u00a0<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u2026yoga pants.\u00a0<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u2026pumpkin pie.\u00a0<\/div>\n

Most of all, today, like every Thanksgiving, I remain eternally grateful that I married a man who cares even less about football than I do. After 20 years of being surrounded by television screens showing football, football and more football every Thanksgiving of my life, I am thrilled to report that tonight our television screen will be showing Love, Actually<\/i>.\u00a0<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
And finally, I am so thankful that tomorrow I can legitimately turn on Christmas music 24 hours a day!\u00a0<\/div>\n
