As my mind stopped listening and my heart nearly stopped beating I fought back tears of confusion and anger. \u00a0 I thought back to the waiver I signed at my doctor\u2019s office refusing genetic testing and requesting not to be given knowledge of any abnormalities or disabilities. \u00a0I thought of your daddy who was so far away. \u00a0How would I tell him this news? \u00a0They couldn\u2019t be right. \u00a0There was no way, was there? \u00a0Wait! \u00a0You\u2019re a girl! \u00a0A girl. \u00a0We\u2019re having a girl!? \u00a0Daddy was supposed to be here with me to hear this news. \u00a0It is our news. \u00a0They stole our news.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cMa\u2019am. \u00a0Ma\u2019am! \u00a0I\u2019m sorry, but we need your attention. \u00a0Because of your age and this being your first child we recommend that you do not attempt to carry to term. The chances of having a stillborn or late term miscarriage could potentially risk your fertility later on should you choose to try to conceive again. There are things we can do now that would make it less complicated.\u201d<\/p>\n

Those words will always burn in my mind. \u00a0\u201cless complicated.\u201d \u00a0\u201cwe recommend that you do not carry to term.\u201d \u201cBecause of your age.\u201d<\/p>\n

What do those things even mean?! \u00a0How can they be said to a mother?<\/p>\n
