Nourishing Traditions<\/div>\n

I swear I\u2019m not getting obsessed, I just thought I\u2019d provide an update. We got through the week okay, and I thought every recipe we tried was pretty good. I\u2019d make some minor adjustments here or there next time, but all in all the cookbook is worth it as a cookbook and as a lesson in nutrition. The children hated everything and Charlotte survived the week by eating bread and butter. It seems that hunger does not induce her to eat what she\u2019s given, but only induces her to scream and flail around. Only once, on Wednesday night, did I have a total emotional breakdown and ask the Ogre to go get pizza and chocolate chip cookie dough. Because I don\u2019t have an emotional relationship with food at all.<\/div>\n

Doomsday Book<\/i><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Thanks to Melanie<\/a>, a fellow UD grad, I asked the Ogre to pick up this book for me at the library. I\u2019m trying to staunch my Netflix habit (which is really a shame, because all four seasons of Psych are now streaming) and I know if I set out to read what I should be reading (Orthodoxy<\/i>) I\u2019ll just flip a few pages and give up in favor of Instant Entertainment<\/b>! So I\u2019m easing myself back into reading with a great fiction book. It is great, too. Not scholastic, but great fiction, and it was written by someone who is neither JK Rowling nor Stephanie Meyer, which means the Ogre isn\u2019t harassing me too much about it. Although he did ask if I was now reading romance novels. (I don\u2019t know why. Neither the cover nor the name implies romance.)<\/div>\n

Time Travel<\/div>\n

The book is about time travel. I wish we had that technology now, because I would really like to travel back in time and date Robert Redford and Richard Wilbur. Not at the same time, of course. I\u2019m not that kinda girl.<\/div>\n

But apparently I am the kind of girl who dates men she\u2019s not married to. It\u2019s okay, the Ogre would understand. It\u2019s Robert Redford <\/i>and Richard Wilbur, <\/i>for heaven\u2019s sake!<\/div>\n

A Grouch\u2019s mission in life is to be as miserable and grouchy as possible, and pass that feeling on to everyone else. Only then will a Grouch feel in touch with his or her world and be happy. Yet, even though a Grouch may show happiness at anyone\u2019s misfortune (including his or her own), a Grouch would never<\/span><\/i> admit to being happy. Such is the stability of a Grouch\u2019s life: so balanced, and yet so unbalanced.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

40 Days for Life<\/div>\n

Since it\u2019s 40 Days for Life this month, I\u2019m toying with the idea of writing my own story about how being open to life has transformative powers, but I keep feeling like the blogosphere is drowning in those stories. Also, I\u2019m not really sure that yet another true story would accomplish the intended purpose (changing minds and saving lives). Thoughts? Suggestions? I would really appreciate feedback on this one.<\/div>\n
