Something that shocks us or annoys us. Something that seems to change everything.

And quite often, we panic because we can’t imagine how things could ever be okay again.

Why must God disturb us when we’re doing so well?

The truth, however, is that we may not be doing as well as we thought. On the surface, everything seems to be fine. We know our routine. We face each day the way we have faced it before.

But on a deeper level, something is not right. Or something needs to change.

And many times, the disturbance that God allows to come into our lives is a blessing in disguise.

Being bypassed for promotion? It could be the opportunity to find a better job elsewhere or the nudge to upgrade your skills.

Losing your source of income? It could make you think of that dream you have forgotten for so long. Perhaps you are being called to pursue your true passion.

Discovering that your boyfriend is cheating on you? It could open your eyes and help you look for someone who deserves your love and devotion.

Having a crisis that the family needs to face? It could be the chance to bond again as a family.

Sometimes, even a physical ailment could alert you to a greater health problem that needs to be remedied.

In our spiritual lives, our little falls like losing our temper or being impatient can humble us and tell us how much we need God’s grace.

God does not disturb us to ruin our happiness. He allows these unexpected events to happen so that He can keep us safe from bigger troubles. He lets us see the wound we’ve been ignoring for so long, the lukewarmness of our souls, and the looming dangers that can strike at any given moment.

When God disturbs you, it isn’t the time to resent Him or walk away. Rather, it is the perfect opportunity to draw closer, to let Him take you by the hand and lead you to safer and greener pastures.

God sees us eating stale bread that can hardly keep us alive. He takes that bread away and we scream! We thought God was being cruel to us.

But the truth is that He only wants to give us more, so much more than we could possibly think or imagine. Why eat spoiled food when you can have fresh bread and fragrant wine? Why suffer in spiritual hunger when He longs to give your soul a feast?

Pain can sometimes be a friend. Problems can be bridges towards more blessings.

You are not being deprived. You are being asked to let go, to let God take care of you and allow Him to give you more!

PRAYER

O, Lord Jesus, help me to see your deeper reason for allowing the difficult things that happen in my life. Let me not despair but help me to find hope in your merciful heart.

Allow me to find healing, to find true peace and to feast on the eternal blessings you have prepared for me.

When I am lukewarm and falling slowly, disturb me Lord, so that I may be revived.
