Here\u2019s what you are looking for\u2026..<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/albt1.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/albt1.jpg\" alt=\"albt1\" width=\"335\" height=\"151\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10442\"><\/a><br>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/alb2.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/alb2.jpg\" alt=\"alb2\" width=\"278\" height=\"181\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10443\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The museum is perhaps most famous for the most famous of all modern Austrian paintings\u2014 Gustav Klimmt\u2019s  The Kiss\u2026..<br>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/albt3.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/albt3.jpg\" alt=\"albt3\" width=\"160\" height=\"168\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10445\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>But it is the permanent loan exhibit of a private collection of Impressionist art (and Cubist and modern art) that is the other big drawing card here\u2026..<br>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/albt5.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/albt5.jpg\" alt=\"albt5\" width=\"194\" height=\"259\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10447\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here is the story of how the collection came to be here, housed in an annex to a royal residence!<br>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/albt4.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/albt4-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"albt4\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-10446\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>While the collection is a small one, which can be contained in four rather small rooms, it is of high quality, involving Renoir, Monet, Toulouse-Latrec, Sisley, Cezanne, early Picasso, and some of the German Impressionists (yes there were a few).   We will start with a famous Renoir\u2026<br>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/albt6-e1409506543414.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/albt6-e1409506543414-576x1024.jpg\" alt=\"albt6\" width=\"576\" height=\"1024\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-10448\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Renoir (1841-1919) earned his crust of bread by portrait painting, and he was the most sought after of portrait painters in the 1870s in Paris. This painting is of six year old Elizabeth Maitre (who lived until 1960), the daughter of a friend. Using pastels, Renoir sought to bring an intimate feel to this close up portrait. <\/p>\n<p>One of the bigger paintings in the collection is Monet\u2019s famous one of the water lily pond, seen here, and note the explanation below\u2026.<br>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/albt7.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/albt7-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"albt7\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-10449\"><\/a><br>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/albt8.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/albt8-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"albt8\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-10450\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If one knows the work of Toulouse-Latrec, one probably knows his famous posters or cartoons, but here is a more traditional painting of a white horse, with description below.<br>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/albt9-e1409507447421.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/albt9-e1409507447421-576x1024.jpg\" alt=\"albt9\" width=\"576\" height=\"1024\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-10451\"><\/a><br>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/albt10.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/albt10-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"albt10\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-10452\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here is another interesting Monet, deliberately using distortion to suggest a hot simmering summer day.<br>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/albt11.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/albt11-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"albt11\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-10453\"><\/a><br>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/albt12.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/albt12-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"albt12\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-10454\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m willing to bet you\u2019ve not heard of the German Impressionist, Max Pechstein but he deserves to be known. Here is a very nice painting of irises by him.<br>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/albt13-e1409508009261.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/albt13-e1409508009261-576x1024.jpg\" alt=\"albt13\" width=\"576\" height=\"1024\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-10455\"><\/a><br>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/albt14.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/albt14-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"albt14\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-10456\"><\/a><br>\n Another German artist, who got himself in hot water with the Nazis was Emil Nolde.  Here is a large painting of flowers, done in the Impressionist style.<br>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/albt15.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/albt15-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"albt15\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-10457\"><\/a><br>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/albt16.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/albt16-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"albt16\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-10458\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>One of the nice surprises in this museum were several artists I had not studied or heard of before, such as Alexej Jawlensky (1864-1941).  Check this painting out of a corn field near Carantec.<br>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/albt17.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/albt17-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"albt17\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-10459\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Paul Signac (1863-1935) is another Impressionist that I did not know, and here we have a painting of Venetzia (Venice).<br>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/albt18.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/albt18-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"albt18\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-10460\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here is a nice painting by Cezanne of a farm in Normandy\u2026<br>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/albt20.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/wp.production.patheos.com\/blogs\/bibleandculture\/files\/2014\/11\/albt20-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"albt20\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-10461\"><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/albt21.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/albt21-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"albt21\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-10462\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here is a painting by Sisley, not my favorite, but still an interesting scene by a river\u2026..<br>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/albt22.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/wp.production.patheos.com\/blogs\/bibleandculture\/files\/2014\/11\/albt22-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"albt22\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-10463\"><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/albt23.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/albt23-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"albt23\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-10464\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here is another typical Monet<br>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/albt24-e1409510177564.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/albt24-e1409510177564-576x1024.jpg\" alt=\"albt24\" width=\"576\" height=\"1024\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-10465\"><\/a><br>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/albt25.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/albt25-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"albt25\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-10466\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Yet another artist with whom I was unfamiliar is Henri Lebasque (1865-1937).  This lovely painting is entitled Young Girls in a Mediterranean Landscape. <a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/albt26.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/albt26-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"albt26\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-10467\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We will do at least one more post on the Albertina, but here is a painting that augurs a change in direction in the early 20th century.
