But the town fathers decided they wanted to rebuild in a classical style.  And so, we have an Austrian Parliament building modeled on a building you should recognize\u2014- the Parthenon!!<br>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/vw1.jpg\" from the top of arch looking past Athena\u2026.<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/vw8.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/vw8.jpg\" alt=\"vw8\" width=\"576\" height=\"1024\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10942\"><\/a>  Interestingly, this building is actually smaller than city hall\u2026 which you can see here at the end of the street with the spires\u2026.<br>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/vw5.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/vw5.jpg\" alt=\"vw5\" width=\"576\" height=\"1024\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10943\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A walk through old Vienna is very pleasant indeed, with its narrow winding cobblestones streets and pedestrian walk ways\u2026.<br>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/vw9.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/wp.production.patheos.com\/blogs\/bibleandculture\/files\/2014\/11\/vw9.jpg\" alt=\"vw9\" width=\"576\" height=\"1024\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10944\"><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/vw10.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/vw10.jpg\" alt=\"vw10\" width=\"576\" height=\"1024\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10945\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The buildings are closely packed together, but there are no skyscrapers in the old city, unless you count the towering church spires\u2026<br>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/vw11.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/vw11.jpg\" alt=\"vw11\" width=\"576\" height=\"1024\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10946\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There are tons of interesting little shops, for example this one is built into the back of a church!<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/vw12.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/vw12.jpg\" alt=\"vw12\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10947\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here is the silversmith\u2019s shop\u2026..<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/vw14.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/wp.production.patheos.com\/blogs\/bibleandculture\/files\/2014\/11\/vw14.jpg\" alt=\"vw14\" width=\"576\" height=\"1024\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10948\"><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/vw15.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" size-full wp-image-10951\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And the Buchhandlung of course, a real bookshop. which are not disappearing like they are in the U.s. <a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/vw20.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"576\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10954\"><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/vw21.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img you are wondering that\u2019s a painting of the Chateau de Chilion, on Lake Geneva in Switzerland. <\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s an olde clock which hangs over a passageway\u2026<br>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/vw23.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/vw23.jpg\" alt=\"vw23\" width=\"576\" height=\"1024\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10956\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ah oh\u2026.. its a Magnum Bar sign\u2026\u2026! Implied message\u2014 \u2018Carpe diem\u2019  or in this case carpe the carp!\u2019 Of course there were choices other than Greek food, after all, this is Austria\u2026<br>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/vw28.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/vw28.jpg\" alt=\"vw28\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10962\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Like in the U.S. there are restaurants that feature special beverages, in this case the famous Viennese beer\u2014 Gosser, which has a very clever commercial\u2014 \u2018Gut, besser, Gosser\u2019  which means \u2018there\u2019s good, there\u2019s better, and there\u2019 Gosser\u2019.<br>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/vw31.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/vw31.jpg\" alt=\"vw31\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10963\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There are lots of monuments and statues in this city, for example, here is Gutenburg, the inventor of the printing press\u2026<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/vw36.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/vw36.jpg\" alt=\"vw36\" width=\"576\" height=\"1024\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10964\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We could have stopped to watch the rehearsal of a drama troupe performing in a small building which looks like it belongs at the circus\u2026.<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/vw43.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/vw43.jpg\" alt=\"vw43\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10968\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We did stop to see the plague monument, more accurately the monument erected to thank God that Vienna survived the plague\u2026\u2026<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/vw44.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/vw44.jpg\" alt=\"vw44\" width=\"576\" height=\"1024\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10969\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Though tempted, we did not stop at the Bakery\u2026.but boy it smelled good!<br>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/vw45.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/vw45.jpg\" alt=\"vw45\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10970\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There were philosophical signs to ponder\u2026.<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/vw46.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/vw46.jpg\" alt=\"vw46\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10971\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>But in many ways, it was pleasant just to look up at the beautiful blue sky, and thank God for another wonderful day in Vienna\u2026\u2026<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/vw47.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/11\/vw47.jpg\" alt=\"vw47\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10972\"><\/a><\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After WWII, there was a lot of reconstruction in Vienna.
