Here\u2019s a little map\u2026<br>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2017\/07\/ng.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-18117\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2017\/07\/ng-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"ng\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-18117\"><\/a>   This is a World Heritage Site, and well worth the visit. It\u2019s stone circle and passage tomb may date as far back as 5,000 years, making it older than the pyramids and stonehenge. The Irish have done an excellent job of preserving the site, and the visitor centre is top drawer. <\/p>\n<p>This mound is 93 yards in diameter, and 15 yards high. It\u2019s like a low lying ancient domed stadium. <a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2017\/07\/ng1.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-18118\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/wp.production.patheos.com\/blogs\/bibleandculture\/files\/2017\/07\/ng1-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"ng1\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-18118\"><\/a> The passage leading into the center of the chamber is 19 yards long, and there are stones carefully stacked to form walls and ceilings along the way.  The entrance way is aligned so that the sun will enter directly into the center of the chamber on the winter solstice\u2013 Dec.21.  Here is the entrance itself. <a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2017\/07\/ng8.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-18123\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2017\/07\/ng8-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"ng8\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-18123\"><\/a><br>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2017\/07\/ng3.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-18119\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2017\/07\/ng3-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"ng3\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-18119\"><\/a>  There are some 97 stones, called kerb stones, surrounding the mound, and there are other smaller circles\u2026<br>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2017\/07\/ng4.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-18120\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/wp.production.patheos.com\/blogs\/bibleandculture\/files\/2017\/07\/ng4-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"ng4\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-18120\"><\/a> You will notice the decoration on the lintel stone above the entrance way. We must bear in mind that the ancients were considerably shorter than human beings tend to be today. <a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2017\/07\/ng6.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-18121\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/wp.production.patheos.com\/blogs\/bibleandculture\/files\/2017\/07\/ng6-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"ng6\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-18121\"><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2017\/07\/ng7.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-18122\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2017\/07\/ng7-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"ng7\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-18122\"><\/a><br>\n Since photography is forbidden in the passage tomb itself, there is a recreation of it in the visitor\u2019s centre. Located on the top of a knoll, and not far from the river, one can imagine various sun, moon, stars, water rituals and rites of passage. <a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2017\/07\/ng13.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-18127\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2017\/07\/ng13-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"ng13\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-18127\"><\/a>  But the giant mound itself, the construction of which was no small feat, is worth the trip, all by itself. The ancients, were not as primitive or as barbaric and some moderns think. And they were also very religious, in their own ways.
