While some of these old homes seem reasonably normal in size and design\u2026..
\n\"bel11\"<\/a>\"bel12\"<\/a> And there is even one three story apartment building (the first of its sort in any proper neighborhood in the town) which was built to house various WWI soldiers recuperating from the ravages of war\u2026
\n\"bel14\"<\/a> <\/p>\n

This is hardly the \u2018normal\u2019 house on these streets where nothing succeeds like excess. The nouveau riche of Louisville loved turrets and towers and elaborate stone tracery work. \"bel15\"<\/a>\"bel16\"<\/a> They liked etched glass, and stained glass windows (preferably Tiffany of course) and fancy doors and windows and balconies etc.
\n\"bel17\"<\/a>\"bel18\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Even the street itself deserved ornamentation\u2026
\n\"bel19\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Look at these windows and window frames\u2026.\"bel20\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Why not have an upstairs party porch?
\n\"bel21\"<\/a> Or go for a more French look\u2026
\n\"bel25\"<\/a>
\n\"bel22\"<\/a> Even the simpler limestone fronts had to have some fancy tracery or elaborate stone work\u2026.\"bel26\"<\/a>

\nObviously the competition was on\u2026. and not to be outdone were the original owners of this palatial house on Belgravia\u2026
