Writer\u2019s Reckoning<\/p>\n

When all the ink runs out
\nLike a river that runs dry
\nWill we wonder at the well spring
\nAnd ask the reason why?<\/p>\n

When words fail to come
\nAnd thoughts are jumbled too
\nWill we blame a lack of inspiration,
\nOr say our job is through?<\/p>\n

What will a greater Thinker think
\nOf all those words and books
\nWill we seek exoneration
\nAvoid His seering looks?<\/p>\n

What sort of rationalization
\nOr learned interpretation
\nWill serve as vindication
\nWill produce approbation?<\/p>\n

With volumes upon volumes,
\nWhat do those volumes prove
\nSince we at best approximate
\nTruth\u2019s found at twice remove?<\/p>\n

For hearing precedes grasping
\nAs listening precedes learning
\nAs believing precedes seeing
\nAnd feeling precedes yearning<\/p>\n

No human words can encompass
\nThe Almighty Omnipresent
\nNo eloquence can fully re-present
\nThe eternal, abiding Resident.<\/p>\n

But still approximation
\nIs something we all need
\nJust like true application
\nOf truth in word and deed.<\/p>\n

Perhaps we sense our finitude
\nWhen words fall short or stumble
\nFaith, hope and love these three abide
\nEven when we mumble. <\/p>\n

For God himself is the Word
\nThe truth beyond our reckoning
\nAnd so we pray, and praise and write
\nAt his eternal beckoning. <\/p>\n
