They were, but what counted as genuine religion, and what as superstition\u2013 there\u2019s the rub.   From here one could see the acropolis quite readily\u2026.<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2018\/07\/2018-05-26-16.11.43_preview.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/bibleandculture\/files\/2018\/07\/2018-05-26-16.11.43_preview-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-22807\"><\/a> and near here he had his dialogues with the Stoics and Epicureans.   It is likely as well that he visited the Roman forum nearby, and saw the horalogea\u2013 the water clock with the images of the winds.
