FALL FORWARD<\/p>\n

The weak autumn sun
\nNot warming the air,
\nClimbed up the sky,
\nNot seeming to try. <\/p>\n

Ascendancy now
\nIn the hands of the wind
\nThat would dictate the day
\nThat would blow things away.<\/p>\n

The leaves had surrendered
\nAnd swirled to the ground
\nNot clinging to trees,
\nObeying the breeze.<\/p>\n

The grass was all frosted
\nLike icing on cake
\nWhich crumbled when crushed
\nWhich gave up and hushed. <\/p>\n

Perhaps Nature\u2019s memory
\nStored up of Spring
\nAllowed it to go
\nAs if dying to know<\/p>\n

The next chapter of life
\nBeyond rest and rebirth
\nBeyond disease and decay
\nBeyond going away. <\/p>\n

Whatever the story
\nThe wind seemed to whisper
\nI lacked understanding
\nIt\u2019s tongue too demanding.<\/p>\n

A silent sentinel
\nThe constant outsider
\nI observe from afar
\nAnd ask who we are.<\/p>\n

If a \u2018quintessence of dust\u2019
\nThen why still tone deaf
\nTo Nature\u2019s swan song
\nNo sense I belong. <\/p>\n

A little lower than angels
\nA little higher than apes
\nLess lasting than trees
\nMore buzz than the bees.<\/p>\n

Not Nature\u2019s offspring
\nNot dust in the wind
\nNot made for a minute
\nNot trapped within it.<\/p>\n

New creatures, old earth
\nGod\u2019s image, Word\u2019s worth
\nEmbodying his glory
\nRetelling his story.<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t fall back on Nature
\nFall forward like Him
\nBeyond shadow\u2019s death knell
\nBeyond Fall\u2019s farewell. <\/p>\n
