PLAGUE<\/p>\n
\u2018Bring out your dead\u2019
\nThe old man said,
\nAs another soul
\nBit the dust.<\/p>\n
\u2018Even the best,
\nAnd all the rest
\nCan be felled\u2019
\nAnd the old man cussed. <\/p>\n
\u2018Do not go gentle
\nInto that dark night\u2019
\nAnd he spit
\nAt the bothersome blight.<\/p>\n
But the physician said
\n\u2018Turn the curse to a cure
\nTest and make sure
\nFor those confined to a sick bed.\u2019<\/p>\n
The doomsday seer
\nWith his gaze so severe
\ninsisted \u2014
\n\u2018it\u2019s the judgments of almighty God\u2019<\/p>\n
But if that is so,
\nWhy has the blow,
\nNot struck just the wicked\u2013 how odd? <\/p>\n
The theologian said
\n\u2018Somewhere I read,
\nThat God\u2019s not found in the fire.
\nBut in the still small voice
\nYou can learn his choice
\nAnd discern the divine desire.\u2019<\/p>\n
Whatever the source,
\nWhatever the reason
\nThe time of Lent
\nIs the proper season,<\/p>\n
For us all to repent
\nAnd turn back to the Lord.
\nRather than greedily hoard,<\/p>\n
It\u2019s time to be giving,
\nSo others keep living,
\nThis is our call and reward. <\/p>\n
