People come to Cambridge to learn English, particularly in the summer.   Then there are the Evangelical institutions like the famous study centre\u2014 Tyndale House on Selwyn Gardens.    Here are a couple of pictures\u2014<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2013\/06\/tynd.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2013\/06\/tynd-e1370585906524-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-5916\"><\/a><br>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2013\/06\/tynd2.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2013\/06\/tynd2-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-5917\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Several of the scholars at Tyndale House do in fact do special teaching for Cambridge U.  On top of that there are Anglican training schools in Cambridge like Westcott House, and there is the Divinity School which is part of Cambridge University as well.   Here are a couple of shots of it.  <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2013\/06\/div.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2013\/06\/div-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-5918\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Lady Margaret professorships is one of the more famous ones at the Div school, presently held by Judy Lieu, who like myself, studied at Durham with C.K. Barrett. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2013\/06\/div2.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2013\/06\/div2-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-5919\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There is a lecture hall named after J.B. Lightfoot complete with nice painting of the most famous NT scholar of the 19th century in episcopal garb\u2026<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2013\/06\/div3.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2013\/06\/div3-e1370586593256-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-5920\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There are of course the many, many traditional colleges which make up the University as well such as Clare College\u2026 where my friend Richard Bauckham is a member. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2013\/06\/clare.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2013\/06\/clare-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-5921\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Or of course King\u2019s college, the most famous of the Cambridge colleges, <a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2013\/06\/kings.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2013\/06\/kings-e1370586910106-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-5922\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Most Americans do not understand the British college within the university system.  Each college has its own students, its own profs, its own chapel, its own dining facilities, its own rowing clubs etc.  Students of course also take lectures in the university as well as in college, but the colleges are much more than just departments, as we have in the U.S.   Besides the two aforementioned famous colleges on the High Street, there are many others with interesting doors and gateways, and stained glass windows\u2026<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2013\/06\/door.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2013\/06\/door-e1370587158534-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-5923\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2013\/06\/corp.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2013\/06\/corp-e1370587524208-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-5925\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Most of the colleges are downtown, but most are not on the high street, so you have to walk a ways to get to them if you are downtown. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2013\/06\/down.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2013\/06\/down-e1370587693304-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-5926\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m going to focus on Immanuel College because of its stained glass windows in its chapel.   Here is what you see when you enter the college gateway\u2026<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2013\/06\/imm1.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2013\/06\/imm1-e1370587861426-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-5927\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Directly across the green is the chapel and here are some of its windows. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2013\/06\/imm3.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2013\/06\/imm3-e1370588023500-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-5928\"><\/a><br>\nHere we have William Law and John Smith\u2026 two names Wesley scholars will know. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2013\/06\/imm4.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2013\/06\/imm4-e1370588172704-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-5929\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here we have Anselm and Augustine. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2013\/06\/imm5.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2013\/06\/imm5-e1370588352752-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-5930\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here we have Cranmer and Fisher. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2013\/06\/imm6.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2013\/06\/imm6-e1370588496996-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-5931\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And here at last we have John Collett and William Tyndale\u2014 one of my personal heroes.
