It is quite hard to believe that it was 43 years ago that John Lennon was shot and killed outside the Dakota apartments in NY.\u00a0 So many of us were in shock.\u00a0 How could this happen?\u00a0 Answer\u2013 a deranged fan with easy access to a weapon. It is the plague that continues to destroy our country.\u00a0 On a much happier note, this past Wednesday my wife and I got to go here the Fab Four re-create on the original instruments the wonderful music of the Beatles with the whole audience singing along.\u00a0 It was magical.\u00a0 The Fab Four are what is usually called a tribute band\u2014 they look like the Beatles, they talk like the Beatles, they dress like the Beatles, they serve up Beatle-like humor, and they ooze the joy it is to play the Beatles music and play it well\u2014 with excellent timing and harmony. In this particular show, they did the whole of Rubber Soul (the British version of the lp which had extra songs that in America were thrown into a separate lp so greedy Capitol records could make more money).\u00a0 Then they did greatest hits early and late.\u00a0 \u00a0We ended by all singing\u00a0 Hey Jude until the cows came home.\u00a0 \u00a0Here are a few shots of the concert\u2014- you will notice that the dude playing John looks a lot like him, and is in fact the only man in the band who is a Brit\u2014 from Newcastle no less. He certainly doesn\u2019t have to fake the accent, although Gordie is a long way from Liverpudlian.<\/p>\n

\u2018John\u2019 came out dressed as above and did standup Beatle\u2019s style for a few minutes and it was funny\u2014 for example he squinted out at the audience and asked \u2018why are all you teenagers dressed up like your parents?\u2019\u00a0 The crowd was overwhelmingly my age or nearly so.<\/p>\n

It was difficult to get a close up of Ringo as he was in semi-darkness on a platform in the back, but here they all are.<\/p>\n

It was heartening to see parents with their children and even grandchildren at this concert\u2026. we should have sung \u2018When I\u2019m 64\u2019. Probably the very best and most impressive performance was of A Day in the Life, from the end of Sgt. Peppers\u2014 this is difficult and they nailed it, as they did so many other songs.\u00a0 \u00a0Since seeing the real Beatles is quite impossible now, this is a very good substitute, and done in a way that honors the original artists and their artistry.\u00a0 Not bad for one Brit, and three lads from the west coast of the U.S.\u00a0 \u00a0Cheers!!<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
