A puzzle in a phrase<\/p>\n
But is it revelation<\/p>\n
Which always will amaze?<\/p>\n

They find the \u2018mystery\u2019 lacking<\/p>\n
Clear diction and quite plain<\/p>\n
And if it causes pondering<\/p>\n
They\u2019re going to complain.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
Where is the love of eloquence<\/p>\n
In form and substance too<\/p>\n
Must discourse be plebian<\/p>\n
In order to get through?<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
Not all things in the Bible<\/p>\n
Are clear to one and all<\/p>\n
And when the truth\u2019s apparent<\/p>\n
Sometimes it will appall.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
Clarity is a virtue<\/p>\n
But sometimes it offends<\/p>\n
The sense and sensibility<\/p>\n
Of enemies and friends<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
Who wants an intruding truth<\/p>\n
That upsets a quiet life<\/p>\n
And changes one\u2019s direction<\/p>\n
The result\u2014unending strife.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
The preacher\u2019s great temptation<\/p>\n
In trying to please the crowd<\/p>\n
Is over-simplifying<\/p>\n
And repeating it too loud.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
But life is complicated,<\/p>\n
And there\u2019s mystery in Good News<\/p>\n
It serves no good purpose<\/p>\n
To trivialize the truths.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
There is a need for reflection<\/p>\n
Some truths are hard to grasp<\/p>\n
The learning curve is steep<\/p>\n
The light may dawn at last.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
Perhaps perspicuity<\/p>\n
Is not lacking in the Word<\/p>\n
But in the puzzler\u2019s brain<\/p>\n
To whom it seems absurd.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
Beware the proclaimer<\/p>\n
Who thinks he knows it all<\/p>\n
And can unveil the mystery<\/p>\n
Of Redemption and the Fall.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
We see through opaque windows<\/p>\n
And comprehend in part<\/p>\n
It requires ongoing repentance<\/p>\n
And an open heart.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
And when it becomes apparent<\/p>\n
Our flaws have been revealed<\/p>\n
The kind of illumination<\/p>\n
Unsought but oh so real.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
Like a two-edged sword<\/p>\n
Piercing our facade<\/p>\n
In learning God\u2019s message<\/p>\n
We learn we\u2019re far from God.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
So ponder God\u2019s witness<\/p>\n
And learn about your state<\/p>\n
We fall short of God\u2019s glory<\/p>\n
My destiny or my fate?<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
Or perhaps a unique providence<\/p>\n
Governs our lives and call<\/p>\n
And we are saved by grace<\/p>\n
Not by knowing all.<\/p>\n
