buildings, there were in fact small temples in various places in the ancient cities including in Ostia.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2025\/08\/20250529_105110-1.jpeg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-73460\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2025\/08\/20250529_105110-1.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"504\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>These temples were built for gods believed to protect sailors and sailing.\u00a0 And adjacent to these buildings were collegiale, or association buildings for those who were guilds of workers who built and maintained these buildings, as well the business buildings nearby\u2014 so carpenters, stone masons, pipe fitters, plumbers and more.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2025\/08\/20250529_105127-1.jpeg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-73463\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2025\/08\/20250529_105127-1.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"599\"><\/a><a
