src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/06\/ephes21-576x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"576\" height=\"1024\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-9263\"><\/a><br>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/06\/ephes22.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" size-large wp-image-9265\"><\/a><br>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/06\/Byzantium-Ephesus-clinic.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img size-large wp-image-9266\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If one turns around half way down the hill, one discovers that the gate to the upper city is called the Herakles Gate.<br>\n<a this was of interest to you, as an ancient person you could always stop half way down the hill and play backgammon with a friend.<br>\n<a wp-image-9269\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And you could play that game while cooling off in the shade of the fountain of Trajan (which of course was built, as was the Domitian temple, well after Paul\u2019s day, but John of Patmos may have seen it).<br>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/55\/2014\/06\/ephes28.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\"
