for the pain within<\/em><\/p>\nIt casts blame blindly<\/em>
\nit finds the weakest victim<\/em>
\nthe lazy coward<\/em><\/p>\nhurt can not heal hurt<\/em>
\nit opens the wound again<\/em>
\nclinging to the pain<\/em><\/p>\nI wrote these verses this morning because I am still reeling from yesterday. I\u2019m trying to keep the rage at bay. It\u2019s hard.<\/p>\n
But I\u2019m recognizing it was rage that got us here in the first place.<\/p>\n
People who raged at the loss of jobs, opportunity, and privilege in society. People who raged because they weren\u2019t succeeding and needed someone else to blame. It\u2019s dangerous. Rage is a destroyer because it\u2019s violent and blind.<\/p>\n
We all suffer from it. I know I do.<\/p>\n
I rage at the traffic when I didn\u2019t plan for enough time to get somewhere. I rage at projects and tasks when they don\u2019t go as well as I hoped.<\/p>\n
The danger is when we rage against others. It is here we try to transfer the pain and the blame instead of facing it. This is the hearth in which racism is fanned into flame. It\u2019s like a disease. It spreads so naturally.<\/p>\n
This is why I\u2019m on guard against my rage.<\/p>\n
I wouldn\u2019t want to try to cast my pain to an easy target. I wouldn\u2019t want to fall prey to the same sin I am condemning. I wouldn\u2019t want to blame \u201cthe other\u201d instead of seeking to heal the wound.<\/p>\n
Today I am repeating the following mantra to myself\u2026
\n\u201cthis is not a problem with conservatives\u201d
\n\u201cthis is not Trump\u2019s fault\u201d<\/p>\n
It is a human problem.
\nIt starts with me.
\nand it ends
\nin mercy
\npeace
