I don\u2019t know anyone who actually watches Girls<\/em>, but I saw this piece in Truth Revolt about how Lena Dunham\u2019s show had a recent episode that dealt with how powerful men use their power to seduce women<\/a>.<\/p>\n

So what was this episode about?\u00a0The Daily Beast<\/a>\u00a0watched it so you don\u2019t have to:<\/p>\n

The episode finds Dunham\u2019s Hannah Horvath going to the palatial apartment of famous author Chuck Palmer, played by Rhys. Hannah had written a piece for a Jezebel-esque feminist website surfacing stories from several college women claiming that Palmer used his power and influence to sleep with them on his book tour. \u00a0When Hannah wonders whether all those encounters were consensual\u2026 They spend the episode discussing the nuances of consent and privilege. He thinks the women were seducing him so that they would have \u201ca story\u201d to tell. She thinks they were too intimidated by his celebrity to say no. He vents about the state of the world, in which his life can be destroyed by girls posting about sex with him on \u201csomething called Tumblr, without an e.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The episode got really controversial when\u00a0Palmer<\/em> (Matthew Rhys) took out his penis during their \u201ccuddle session\u201d and made Hannah very uncomfortable. (It was fake, the director helpfully informed us.) So, if the idea behind this episode is TRUE \u2014 that powerful novelists can use their power to seduce young women \u2014 how much more true is it that PRESIDENTS can do the same thing?<\/p>\n

When Lena was going around campaigning for Hillary Clinton, she was also campaigning for Bill Clinton to be put right back in the White House. As you might remember, over a dozen women have accused the former President of sexual misconduct ranging from groping to rape (and don\u2019t\u00a0forget\u00a0he actually\u00a0settled a sexually harassment with Paula Jones.) To make matters worse, these women also claim that Hillary strategically\u00a0\u201cslut-shamed\u201d them out of the cultural conversation.<\/p>\n

The premise of this provocative episode of\u00a0Girls \u2014<\/em>\u00a0that sex, power, and rape are ripe for conversation and cultural improvement \u2013 is a good one. If only Lena Dunham would have the guts to speak out against the real sexual predators and their enablers instead of trying to usher them into the White House.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Why the double standard, Lena? \u00a0If you REALLY cared about women, you\u2019d care about all women \u2014 even the ones Hillary\u2019s people called \u201ctrailer trash.\u201d \u00a0If you REALLY hated sexual predators, you\u2019d fight against all of them \u2013 even the ones we\u2019ve called Mister President.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
