As the mother of girls AND a boy, I am so tired of how people bend over backwards to elevate girls at the expense of boys. \u00a0The latest example is Slate Magazine writer\u00a0Heather Schwedel who wrote an article called \u201cWhy Are Some Male Faces Punchable<\/a>?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Um\u2026<\/p>\n

What? \u00a0Ann Althouse brings up a very good point.\u00a0\u201cSlate must think the word \u2018male\u2019\u00a0in this headline makes it not just okay but hilarious,\u201d she\u00a0wrote.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s a list of the people she thinks have a \u201cpunchable face:\u201d<\/p>\n

Martin Shkreli<\/p>\n

Scott Disick<\/p>\n

Ryan Lochte<\/p>\n

Miles Teller<\/p>\n

Justin Bieber<\/p>\n

Eric Trump<\/p>\n

Donald Trump Jr.<\/p>\n

Ansel Elgort<\/p>\n

You might not recognize Elgort\u2019s name, but he\u2019s the star of the new movie\u00a0Baby Driver.<\/em> \u00a0Schwedel dislikes him because he had the gall to be born into a wealthy family:\u00a0<\/em>\u201cBackgroundwise, he\u2019s an upper-crust New Yorker: He went to the\u00a0Fame<\/em>\u00a0high school, and his father is a fashion photographer.\u201d<\/p>\n

So, that\u2019s all it takes? \u00a0Notice that there are two Trumps on the list, of course. \u00a0Here\u2019s her \u201chot take\u201d on it all:<\/p>\n

There\u2019s a certain class of public figure whose face routinely gets described as \u201cpunchable.\u201d He\u2019s usually male; though arguably society shouldn\u2019t be encouraging the punching of anyone (with possible exception for Nazis<\/a>), good etiquette would seem to indicate that women are considered the less punchable sex. The guy with the punchable face is usually white;\u00a0it\u2019s hard out there for white men lately<\/a>, in case you hadn\u2019t heard. He\u2019s usually young, too: What\u2019s more annoying than the know-it-all grin of impetuous youth? In addition to the privilege that being young, white, and male already affords him, he of high punchability often has a look that somehow scans as extra-privileged, a mouth seemingly born with a silver spoon in it.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Do you know who\u2019s really privileged? \u00a0<\/span>Dumba$$ writers who never get called out for the idiotic things they say. \u00a0Let\u2019s end that.<\/span><\/p>\n
