Army Staff Sgt. Mark R. De Alencar\u00a0was killed in Afghanistan on April 8\u00a0during a firefight<\/a>\u00a0with Islamic State fighters in Afghanistan.<\/p>\n

He and his wife\u00a0Natasha had been married fifteen years, and De Alencar left behind five children: Deshaune, Octavia, \u00adRodrigo, Tatiyana, and Marcos.\u00a0\u201cMy husband was truly one of those people who would give you the shirt off of his back and he would look out for you before himself,\u201d his widow told the Washington Post<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n

Apparently, after the hoopla that surrounded the President\u2019s call to a recently widowed wife of a soldier killed in Niger, reporters started calling Natasha, because\u2026. that\u2019s what reporters do: call families who have recently suffered great loss and ask them to criticize the commander in chief.\u00a0 Anyway, since she was getting so many calls, she decided to release the audio of her call.<\/p>\n

The Washington Post <\/a><\/em>has the details of the call:<\/p>\n

Trump opened by saying how sorry he is about the \u201cwhole situation,\u201d before adding that De Alencar\u2019s husband was \u201can unbelievable hero.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAt that moment when my world was upside down and me and my kids didn\u2019t know which way we were going, it felt like I was talking to just another regular human,\u201d De Alencar said.<\/p>\n

Later in the call, Trump invited De Alencar to the White House, telling her, \u201cIf you\u2019re around Washington, you come over and see me in the Oval Office,\u201d before asking about her oldest son,\u00a0<\/strong>Deshaun,\u00a0who is playing college football at\u00a0Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Mo.<\/p>\n

De Alencar told Trump that her son had received a scholarship, and Trump asked whether it was an academic or sports scholarship. (It was an academic scholarship.)<\/p>\n

The conversation then shifted to De Alencar\u2019s four other children. Trump asked her to say hello to them for him and to \u201ctell them their father was a great hero that I respected.\u201d<\/p>\n

The phone call ended with Trump repeating his invitation to the White House\u00a0and advising De Alencar to take care of herself. In total, the conversation lasted just under four minutes.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a moment of niceness that we needed because we were going through hell,\u201d De Alencar said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Wow.\u00a0 That sounds actually nice and respectful and kind.\u00a0 Now, reporters, what are you going to do?\u00a0 Harass more Gold Star families? \u00a0I\u2019m so sick and tired of the media trying to criticize every single thing the President does \u2014 and even politicizing the sacred, like the loss of American heroes. \u00a0 Thank you, Natasha, for your unbelievable sacrifice and for releasing this audio. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
