I appreciate all the love and comments I\u2019ve been getting about my time on Wife Swap \u2013 it seemed like many of you really enjoyed seeing Melissa Rivers and me switching lives! Through Twitter<\/a> and Facebook<\/a>, I\u2019ve gotten some questions about the show, so I thought I\u2019d go through a few of them, starting with this one:<\/p>\n

Question Number 1: \u201cWhy didn\u2019t you just go on Fashion Police?\u201d\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Some viewers, it turned out, thought I wasn\u2019t being a good sport by not filling in on the show for Melissa.\u00a0 Though I sort of answered that on the show, I\u2019ll take the opportunity now to explain a bit further.<\/p>\n

I didn\u2019t want to be a part of the show, because I don\u2019t believe in judging people on how they look. I like clothes, and heels, and nice things, but I have no place to judge what other people wear on a red carpet.\u00a0 In fact, I\u2019ve been the subject of those kinds of conversations before.\u00a0 I\u2019m sure you all remember the negative things that people have said about me in the press. For example, when I was on Dancing with the Stars after the 2008 election, Joan took it upon herself to talk about the way I looked:<\/p>\n

\u201cShe should not have been there. Instead of cha-cha-cha, she must have been doing cha-cha-chew. How did she dance for eight hours a day and manage to gain weight?\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

She also said I was stupid, that I danced like her old horse, and that she hated me.\u00a0 I\u2019m reliving these old comments to show that I know personally how hurtful Joan\u2019s words can be.\u00a0 And it\u2019s not just me.\u00a0 Everyone goes through their own struggle with weight, skin, relationships\u2026 heck everything in life!<\/p>\n

On the show, Joan Rivers talked about wanting to live beautifully if you could.\u00a0 Well, we do have an opportunity to speak kindly and not so ugly.<\/p>\n

Joan is a funny woman.\u00a0 In fact, I laughed at some of her comments during the taping of Fashion Police and was impressed by how witty she was.\u00a0 But the show is based on making fun of people\u2019s appearances. If I had gone on the show \u2013 even though I don\u2019t believe in judging other based on clothes, hair, and weight \u2014 it would be like having Melissa speak at a pro life event, even if she\u2019s pro choice.<\/p>\n

Though it\u2019s easy to be entertained by things like that, it\u2019s not that funny being on the other side of the joke. Joan\u2019s humor frequently comes at the expense of other people \u2013 sometimes herself.\u00a0 But let\u2019s not pretend it\u2019s a harmless activity.<\/p>\n
