Mom\u00a0made quite a splash by her appearance at Saturday Night Live\u2019s 40th anniversary special. Remember the silly \u201cwhite dress<\/a>\u201d controversy? At the afterparty, my mom also got to meet Louis C.K. in person \u2013 the comedian who tweeted several profane \u2018jokes\u2019 about her nearly 5 years ago.<\/p>\n

Their interaction was not what you would expect. <\/p>\n

My mom\u2019s reaction wasn\u2019t too surprising to anyone who is polite and kind. And if you know her, neither was the effect she had on Louis CK.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s how he tells it:<\/p>\n

\u201cShe says, \u2018Hey, I think you\u2019re terrific. I think you\u2019re really funny and my nephew told me I have to say hi to you and you\u2019re the one guy I have to meet,\u2019\u201d the comedian recalled. \u201cSomething came over me emotionally and I said, \u2018Well, I owe you an apology<\/a>.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Louis C.K. said he\u2019s \u201cnever in a million years apologized for anything\u201d he\u2019s said before, and he made it clear he doesn\u2019t apologize to anyone else who was offended by his remarks. However, seeing Palin in person moved him to make amends because he\u2019s not an \u201cinsult guy.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Mom actually hadn\u2019t seen the tweets he\u2019s referring to, so she asked what he meant. He admitted that he\u2019d said some \u201cbad things\u201d about her, and Mom\u2019s response was pretty funny: \u201cWell, you\u2019re a vile person.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd it kind of made me laugh,\u201d he said. \u201cI said, \u2018yeah, I hope I didn\u2019t hurt you\u2019re feelings and I\u2019m sorry.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Then Sarah Palin invited him to Alaska to go fishing sometime!<\/p>\n

\u201cMaybe it surprises people, but I was sincerely humbled and appreciative,\u201d she said later. \u201cI wish I could have spoken with him longer. And again, I sincerely appreciated his unexpected and character-revealing apology. I think he\u2019s the only one in Hollywood who\u2019s ever done that<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

He still went on to say some disgusting things <\/a>about her and other conservative women, when he later went on the radio with Howard Stern.<\/p>\n

But again, what do you expect \u2014 in my mom\u2019s words, he\u2019s \u201ca vile person.\u201d<\/p>\n

That follow-up incident also points out the double standard between media coverage of conservatives and their own buddies, the liberals. The writer at Breitbart is pretty insightful:<\/p>\n

My guess is that if Stern and C.K. had used the names Sandra Fluke, Chelsea Clinton, Elizabeth Warren, and Michelle Obama, the media coverage would be entirely different.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

You don\u2019t say.<\/p>\n

Anyway, the point I want to make is: my mom\u2019s just a normal, likable person \u2013 whatever your politics are! It\u2019s rare someone meets her who doesn\u2019t end up liking her!<\/p>\n
