{"id":3053,"date":"2011-02-09T08:07:06","date_gmt":"2011-02-09T13:07:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.buildingcathedrals.com\/?p=3053"},"modified":"2011-02-09T08:07:06","modified_gmt":"2011-02-09T13:07:06","slug":"play-dough-recipe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/buildingcathedrals\/2011\/02\/play-dough-recipe\/","title":{"rendered":"Play Dough Recipe"},"content":{"rendered":"<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><head><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><\/head><body><p><figure id=\"attachment_3054\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3054\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3054\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">I let my kids pick their own color.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>As promised, here is my homemade play dough recipe.\u00a0 We\u00a0 make the stove top variety, as it tends to be a little more elastic and smooth than the no cook recipes.<\/p>\n<p>Ingredients\u2013<\/p>\n<p>2 cups flour<\/p>\n<p>2 cups warm water<\/p>\n<p>1 cup salt<\/p>\n<p>2 Tablespoons vegetable oil<\/p>\n<p>1 Tablespoon cream of tartar<\/p>\n<p>5-6 drops of food coloring<\/p>\n<p>scented oils<\/p>\n<p>Stir all ingredients except the food coloring and scented oil together in a pot over low heat.\u00a0 Continue to stir as mixture thickens.\u00a0 When mixture pulls away from the sides and clumps together in the middle remove from heat.\u00a0 Allow mixture to cool enough to handle.\u00a0 If the play dough is still sticky, you should cook it a bit longer.<\/p>\n<p>Once cool enough to handle, knead dough until it becomes smooth.\u00a0 Divide evenly into balls and add 5-6 drops of food coloring to each ball.\u00a0 Make a divot in the center of each ball and drop food coloring into the divot.\u00a0 Fold dough over and avoid contact with hands and counter tops because food dye will stain!\u00a0 Knead dough until dough turns a nice and even pastel color (colors will not be as bright as the store bought variety).\u00a0 My kids love to watch this stage!<\/p>\n<p>Add a drop of scented oil to each ball and get rid of that yucky play dough smell!<\/p>\n<p>Play and enjoy!<\/p>\n<p>Start to finish this recipe takes only 15 minutes and if stored in an airtight ziplock bag the dough will last for weeks.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As promised, here is my homemade play dough recipe.\u00a0 We\u00a0 make the stove top variety, as it tends to be a little more elastic and smooth than the no cook recipes.
