When Dad is gone I tend to simplify things like meals. Last week I resurrected the nachos of previous fame<\/a> and I think we may have had cereal for dinner one night. And, weather permitting, we eat up to 3 meals a day outside (less clean up!).<\/p>\n

I also try to make sure that I have some interaction with someone over the age of 5, whether it is a play date or just talking to the moms at karate.<\/p>\n

I use the divide and conquer method of putting the boys to bed sending them each to read in their rooms while I put one at a time down with a book.<\/p>\n

And whenever I am tempted to begin my interior monologue of self-pity, I try to stop myself and make an act of gratitude for my wonderful husband, his tireless work at the office and at home, and for the income to provide for our family. That usually snaps me out of self-pity and prompts me to get the High School Musical song \u201cWe\u2019re All in this Together\u201d stuck in my head. And upbeat music helps make me more cheerful and sometimes the boys and I even have a dance party.<\/p>\n

I have a dear friend that whose husband is spending several weeks away now and she also has 3 young boys. And we are gearing up for some more time away from Mr. I as well.\u00a0Any other tips on surviving with Daddy away? I know many, many of you have much more challenging circumstances with husbands flying fighter jets in foreign countries and researching overseas.
