{"id":571,"date":"2009-02-16T01:54:00","date_gmt":"2009-02-16T01:54:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.buildingcathedrals.com\/2009\/02\/16\/delicious-and-nutritious\/"},"modified":"2009-02-16T01:54:00","modified_gmt":"2009-02-16T01:54:00","slug":"delicious-and-nutritious","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/buildingcathedrals\/2009\/02\/delicious-and-nutritious\/","title":{"rendered":"Delicious and Nutritious!"},"content":{"rendered":"<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><head><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><\/head><body><p><br><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-weight: bold\">Oat, Fruit, and Nut Bars<\/span><\/p>\n<div><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-weight: bold\"><br><\/span><\/div>\n<div>Ingredients:<\/div>\n<div>1\/2 c. honey<\/div>\n<div>1\/2 c. creamy peanut butter (I used natural)<\/div>\n<div>2 T. maple syrup (I would suggest real maple syrup)<\/div>\n<div>1 T. canola oil<\/div>\n<div>1\/4 c. brown sugar<\/div>\n<div>1\/4 t. cinnamon<\/div>\n<div>1 t. vanilla extract<\/div>\n<div>2 c. oats<\/div>\n<div>2 c. crisp brown rice cereal (I used puffed wheat)<\/div>\n<div>1\/4 c. toasted wheat germ (I didn\u2019t use this)<\/div>\n<div>1\/2 c. chopped nuts (I used almonds)<\/div>\n<div>1\/2 c. chopped dried apricots<\/div>\n<div>1\/2 t. salt<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>1) Combine honey, peanut butter, maple syrup, oil, brown sugar, and cinnamon in a small saucepan over medium heat. Heat just until bubbling, about 3-5 minutes, and remove from heat.<\/div>\n<div>2) Stir in the vanilla<\/div>\n<div>3) Combine oats, cereal, wheat germ, chopped nuts, chopped apricots, and salt in another bowl.<\/div>\n<div>4) Pour peanut butter mixture over oat mixture and combine well with a spatula, making sure that all dry ingredients are coated.<\/div>\n<div>5) Spray a 9 x 13\u2033 dish with nonstick cooking spray, and spread the mixture into the dish<\/div>\n<div>6) Use wax paper to press the mixture down firmly<\/div>\n<div>7) Cool, and then cut as desired<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The estimated cost for making this entire recipe is $2.50 \u2013 $3.00, depending on what type of nuts you use. Not bad, considering these are natural and very delicious!<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Quick tip: I sprayed the measuring cup with nonstick cooking spray before measuring the peanut butter and honey, and they slid right out of the cup instead of sticking!<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>If you try this recipe, let me know what you think.
