Rebecca Todd\u00a0Peters is now blogging over at <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/todojustice\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">To Do Justice<\/a><\/em>. She\u2019s a feminist Christian social ethicist who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/todojustice\/about-3\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">says<\/a> \u201cit is my fervent hope to think with you about what it means to live faithfully as a Progressive Christian in the world today. <strong>Seeking \u2018to do justice\u2019 is\u00a0how I understand my Christian calling in the world<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I first met Toddie three years ago when we both participated in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/carynriswold\/2012\/09\/faith-reproductive-justice\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">Faith and Reproductive Justice Leadership Institute<\/a> at the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.americanprogress.org\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Center for American Progress<\/a><\/em> in Washington, D.C.\u00a0 Since then, I\u2019ve been so grateful to read her words and get to know her as a partner in the work of theology, teaching, and reproductive justice.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s a sample from one of her recent posts on how and why \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/todojustice\/2015\/08\/03\/misogyny-is-exhausting\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">Misogyny is Exhausting<\/a>\u201d:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThese kinds of ideas \u2013 <strong>that women are the root of sin and evil, that women must be subservient to their husbands, that women must accept our inferior status in life<\/strong> \u2013 all of these ideas are rightly understood as part of a misogynist tradition in Christianity, a tradition that has contributed to larger social attitudes and behaviors in society that collectively express a fairly serious \u2018hatred\u2019 of women.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Unfortunately, these misogynist attitudes are not just a part of Christian history, they continue to function in influential ways in contemporary Christianity<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Head on over to <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/todojustice\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">To Do Justice<\/a><\/em> to read more about how to respond to this reality and work toward transforming the tradition, including ways that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/todojustice\/2015\/08\/14\/what-christian-feminism-can-teach-us-about-dealing-with-our-racist-past\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">Christian feminism<\/a> can teach us how to deal with our racist past.<\/p>\n<p>And welcome to <em>Patheos<\/em>, Toddie!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/commons.wikimedia.org\/wiki\/Category:Feminism_symbols#\/media\/File:Feminism_symbol.svg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><em>Image via wikimedia commons.<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We have a new voice joining the work of writing and moving\u00a0toward justice at Patheos.
