He reigns with the most glorious crown &amp; robe of any king, but not the ones we'd expect. 30 231'\"><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s5\">T<\/span><span class=\"s5\">he Feast of Christ the King was established by Pope Pius XI in\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s10\">1925<\/span><span class=\"s5\">, almost one hundred years ago<\/span><span class=\"s5\">;<\/span><span class=\"s5\">\u00a0in<\/span><span class=\"s5\">\u00a0a time when godless revolutionary movements and godless ideologies were being brutal<\/span><span class=\"s5\">ly imposed throughout the world, ideologies that also separa<\/span><span class=\"s5\">ted and segregated human beings and ultimately exterminated them.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s5\">Whether they deny the sovereignty of God or the very existence of God, the rulers of this world are ultimately always conquered by the power of God.\u00a0<\/span><i><span class=\"s4\">Christus vincit,\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s4\">Christus<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"s4\">regnat<\/span><span class=\"s4\">!\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s4\">Christus<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"s4\">imperat<\/span><\/i><span class=\"s4\">! Christ conquers, Christ reigns, Christ commands.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s5\">This is the refrain of an ancient hymn known as the\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s4\">Royal Praises\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s5\">(<\/span><span class=\"s4\">Laudes<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"s4\">Regiae<\/span><span class=\"s5\">)<\/span><span class=\"s5\">.<\/span><span class=\"s5\">\u00a0In the Blessed Sacrament of the Altar we encounter Christ our King, Christ Our Eucharistic King and in the union brought about by the reception of the Eucharist, we invite Our Lord to rule over us from\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s4\">within<\/span><span class=\"s5\">. <a href=\"https:\/\/catholicinsight.com\/solemnity-of-christ-the-king\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Solemnity of Christ the King \u00ab Catholic Insight<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/tICxaSQFJGo\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"text-align: start;\">The kingdom of God, and therefore the kingship of Christ, is first and foremost perplexing. Its driving power is metanoia, the force that leads people to let themselves be turned inside out and to believe that service is the highest vocation they could ever fulfill.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In the kingdom of God, people trust the insight of widowed mothers and beggars to explain how the financial system really works. In the kingdom of God, people look to migrants and refugees to understand the true character of nations. They watch those who serve the wounded and outcast to understand what true religion is.<\/p>\n<p>The language of the kingdom of God is universal, but unintelligible to those who do not share the values it expresses.<\/p>\n<p>The reason the church should celebrate the solemnity of Our Lord, Jesus Christ, the King of the Universe, is to call ourselves to account. Today\u2019s feast calls us to look at Christ the crucified servant and to ask not \u201cAre you a king?\u201d, but \u201cAre you my king, or have I chosen others?\u201d<br>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncronline.org\/news\/opinion\/scripture-life\/solemnity-our-lord-jesus-christ-king-universe-what-have-you-done\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe: \u2018What have you done?\u2019 | National Catholic Reporter (ncronline.org)<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/PuZ1GmWAd8c\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s the crux of today\u2019s Gospel. Pilate thinks of \u201ckingship\u201d in traditional political terms. Jesus thinks of it in spiritual terms.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s not to say that those spiritual terms don\u2019t threaten the political. People who take their faith seriously will always relativize Caesar\u2019s claims. And Caesar doesn\u2019t like that. Even if he\u2019s elected.<\/p>\n<div class=\"inBodyAd marginBottom30\">\n<div id=\"NCR_EN_Article_B\" data-google-query-id=\"CODXofjvqfQCFQ0ZwwodeJ8DKA\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/1319756\/NCR_EN_Article_B_0__container__\">Vatican II speaks of Christians as participating in the \u201cthreefold office of Christ.\u201d Christians, by virtue of baptism, are priests, prophets and kings. They are to offer the sacrifice of worship to God. They are to bear witness to Truth, just as Jesus says in today\u2019s Gospel (and which today\u2019s Caesars, like Pilate, treat with similar cynicism). And they are to be kings, who rule themselves by truth and moral rightness. They may not wield political power or influence, but they wield the moral witness of standing for the Truth even when those with power and influence ask, \u201cwhat is truth?\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncregister.com\/blog\/the-solemnity-of-our-lord-jesus-christ-king-of-the-universe\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe| National Catholic Register (ncregister.com)<\/a><\/div>\n<div><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-16567 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/1316\/2021\/11\/Christ-the-King-2-205x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"205\" height=\"300\"><\/div>\n<div><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/scontent-bos3-1.xx.fbcdn.net\/v\/t39.30808-6\/258771093_10100598049372510_4888418146821547498_n.jpg?_nc_cat=110&amp;_nc_rgb565=1&amp;ccb=1-5&amp;_nc_sid=dbeb18&amp;_nc_ohc=8gCI__pN3akAX-YfxRq&amp;_nc_ht=scontent-bos3-1.xx&amp;oh=0d3fc835e2cd58b4664e9b13c51af975&amp;oe=619FE4E5\" alt=\"No photo description available.\"><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/UKb67afj2oY\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>I compared this solemnity, Christ the King, to the last chapter of a book or the finale of a TV show, and like books and TV shows, the church calendar, the liturgical year, has a story to tell, a drama thousands of years in the making, compressed into the 52 weeks of the year.<\/p>\n<p>There is effective power in the \u201cunfolding of the liturgical year,\u201d from each season and feast to the next, to \u201cnourish the Christian life.\u201d People miss that if they only come to Mass sporadically: Christmas and Easter, Ash Wednesday and Palm Sunday, and so forth. Imagine trying to follow a TV show but skipping most of the episodes \u2014 but more so, because we\u2019re not just viewers here at Mass. You aren\u2019t an audience. We are all active participants in this act of worship, and every week our presence matters, or our absence.<\/p>\n<p>So this story comes to a finale with Christ the King, but where does it start? Next Sunday, the first Sunday in Advent, the story starts again \u2014 where? Not at the beginning, actually. I\u2019m sure you\u2019ve seen TV shows and movies that start off in the middle of things and then fill you in later on.
