\"angels_cyril_of_jerusalem_1\"<\/a>T<\/em>he cross was the most shameful method of execution the ancient world could\u00a0<\/em>think of. But angels glory in the Cross of Christ, says St. Cyril of J<\/em>er<\/em>usa<\/em>lem, <\/em>because it was the instrument of our <\/em>sa<\/em>lva<\/em>tion.<\/em><\/p>\n

We can never get tired of hearing about our crowned Lord\u2014and least of all in this most holy Golgotha. For while others only hear, we can see and touch as well.<\/p>\n

Let no one be tired! Take your armor against your adversaries in the cause of the Cross itself. Set up the faith of the Cross as a trophy against the deniers. When you\u2019re going to argue with unbelievers about the Cross of Christ, first make the sign of Christ\u2019s Cross with your hand\u2014the denier will be silent.<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t be ashamed to confess the Cross. Angels glory in it: they say, \u201cWe know that you seek Jesus who was crucified\u201d (Matt. 28:5). Angel! Couldn\u2019t you have said, \u201cI know you seek my Master\u201d? No: he says boldly, \u201cI know that you seek Jesus who was crucified.\u201d The Cross is a crown, not a dishonor. \u2013St. Cyril of Jerusalem, Catechetical Lecture 13<\/em>, 22<\/p>\n

IN GOD\u2019S PRESENCE, CONSIDER . . .<\/strong><\/p>\n

Is the Sign of the Cross a regular part of my life? Or am I sometimes ashamed to acknowledge in public the sign that the angels glory in?<\/p>\n

CLOSING PRAYER<\/strong><\/p>\n

Holy angels, the sign of <\/em>Ch<\/em>r<\/em>ist<\/em>\u2019<\/em>s<\/em> crucifixion is your glory. Teach me to make it my glory <\/em>as <\/em>well, so that <\/em>I may never be ashamed to acknowledge Jesus who was crucified.<\/em><\/p>\n
